Thats bit weird, I’m of the opinion beginners should be just thrown in the deep end. It’s the best way to learn what bjj really is, also you’ll progress much faster rolling from early onOdd that there isn't any rolling for at least 6 months or so of training... I understand why but IDK
I have the same mind set, you need to get wet to learn to swim.Thats bit weird, I’m of the opinion beginners should be just thrown in the deep end. It’s the best way to learn what bjj really is, also you’ll progress much faster rolling from early on

grip-fighting with strength is awesome for arthritis in your pinky and ring fingers.Last night my grip failed me horribly!! We were working the bow and arrow choke.
I did bring the question up to one of the higher ranks, he showed me a bit more detail regarding turning the gi lapel so it sits into my hand much better improving my grip, he also had me hook behind the knee instead of grabbing the pants leg.
Things were better with the added detail regarding technique but
I'm curious if anyone might have any suggestions regarding improving grip strength?
My hands are beat up

how do you feel about taping up your fingers every day before class? do you look forward to wincing when you hold toilet paper?
but to answer your question, farmer walks and push-ups
It’s bjj, you will get injured at some point. I just think you’re missing out a lot if you don’t roll for first 6 monthsand injuries. you get to experience those early on.
every BJJ *star* over the age of 45 will tell you "drill more, spar less"It’s bjj, you will get injured at some point. I just think you’re missing out a lot if you don’t roll for first 6 months
Sparing less isn’t the answer though. Sparring smart is. I know a few guys in the 50+ age range, one of whom is now 70. They all roll a ton, but do it with the guys they know aren’t going to hurt them, and go at a pace more suitable for them(think glacier movement).every BJJ *star* over the age of 45 will tell you "drill more, spar less"
there are levels to resistance in drilling, and trying a bunch of stuff that doesn't work seems like waste of time.
