In 45 minutes Biden is due to speak regarding the Afghanistan fiasco.

I really, really hope he doesn't come across as the geriatric boob that we are always poking fun of.

This isn't the time to look weak. Big, big moment for him.
He’s gonna talk about vaccines, poop his pants and then awkwardly shuffle off into some bushes

As much as Trump admin fucked up by legitimizing the Taliban and doing a piss poor job of training the Afghan army… Biden needs to realize the buck stops at the current president.

As violence escalates in major cities across the country, many Dems are changing their "Defund the Police" rhetoric.

Chicago Weekend Stats: 52 shot; 5 dead.
One of the dead was a 7 yr old girl.

Getting better I guess...
2 weekends ago it was 73/11.

I hope they start refunding the police in Portland, Oregon. We have half of the force and only one traffic cop.

Many cops are just saying "fuck it" and are taking early retirement. Officers taking deferred retirement (announcing their intention to retire within 4 years) is roughly 5x higher than normal. Recruiting classes across the country for new cops are way down.

Many still on the force are taking a passive approach to policing so they don't find themselves stuck in an impossible situation.

"Defund the Police" was a cool rally cry for Dems. Now they are having their "Oh shit" moment of seeing what an under-policed city looks like.

You get what you ask for.
It just sucks that many times it's the innocent who are caught in the crossfire.

Of course it's either "all cops are essentially militarised psychopaths who use deadly violence as a first resort" or "no cops at all".

No levels between "shoot first and get away with killing whoever you want" and "no cops are allowed to use force on anyone at all, for anyone, ever."

I'd suggest you guys look at the way the rest of the Western world handles policing, but it wouldn't translate because of all your guns. So you're fucked. Unfortunately, you're always going to have a police culture with military equipment and the mindset of an occupying army, that's one of the prices of your national gun fetish. There's not really any way around it.

No one cares about inner city gang violence in cities like Chicago unfortunately.

Until you address the inequality problem in America there will always be gang violence in larger cities.

We need a leader like Joe Biden.

Pulls out of Afghanistan after twenty years of occupation. Says he "doesn't do nation building."

He may be a vegetable but by crikey I like the cut of this Joe Biden's jib.

Unlike Trump, Biden comes from the swamp. He has lived in it, thrived in it for a half century. The swamp is his natural habitat. That's why he is able to get things done, things like ending the twenty year Afghan war, where Trump could not. Biden is a rabid ring-tailed swamp weasel, the meanest in the Beltway ecosystem, and the more demented he becomes, the less of a fuck he gives. Six months, a year at most and he'll be unstoppable

You didn't provide 2 sides of an argument.

You're 1st point is what many of the crazy libs believe, and your 2nd point is what they truly think is the answer.

The skyrocketing murder rates in major cities across America prove that a weaker police presence - be that via budget cuts or by self-imposed passive policing in high crime areas - isn't the answer.

But more toward the point you were trying to make, the pendulum doesn't need to swing so far one way or the other. A militarized police free to do as they wish isn't the answer, and neither is cutting them off at the knees with budget cuts and "blue man bad" rhetoric from the media.

I don't agree that nobody cares.

These areas need to be fixed so that the answer for survival isn't crime. Homelessness. Food deserts. Job opportunities. Schooling. It all needs addressed.

But for the most part, the enemy isn't the cops. It's failed leadership that has done fuck all to fix these areas so people have the opportunity to get out - or even better - fix the areas to the point where people don't need/want to leave.

"There isn't enough money" isn't the answer. What was the 20 yr Afghanistan invoice? This country could do it if they wanted.

So we agree, the inequalities need to be addressed before the violence will stop.

Opportunites need to be made available. That will go a long way in changing what has become a dangerous environment. But with that you still need policing. Hopefully not as much.

There's a LONG way to go in some of these neighborhoods.
