It's funny that the right-wing media thinks this is a winning talking point and that it's worth it to lie by omission about Trump ordering the withdrawal.

The Afghan war has less support than bowel cancer if you actually read the polling data. It won't hurt Biden a bit if he actually commits to the withdrawal and it will in fact probably help him.

He'll probably get cold feet though because he is a senile spastic that will cave in to his handlers.

All of mainstream media thinks it's a winning talking point much the same way it was a winning talking point to criticize Trump for wanting to leave. The war machine must be fed.

"Afghanistan: Come for the Bin Laden, stay for the spreading democracy and women's rights or some shit."

For sure, the establishment media has always been all in on the war, but the weird part is that the pro-Trump outlets now thinks it will play to his base.

Obviously there will be a few partisan dipshits that will get selective amnesia, forget that Trump did that and just say 'senile man bad'. But these outlets are kidding themselves if they think most Trump supporters are suddenly going to be clamoring to stay in Afghanistan.

The only pro-Trump outlet is Fox News. I mean nonsense like OAN and Newsmax exist but there are very few people who can pass a psyche evaluation that also take them seriously.

Regarding the talking point itself. You can want the war ended and still recognize a failure by Biden. Does anyone actually care that Kabul is going to be over run by the Taliban? No, of course not. But no one actually cared about kids in cages either. It's just another point to score against your partys opponents.

Further securing opium fields?
The Taliban has controlled most of them for a long time.

Thinking this was a simple conspiracy would be attributing to that clusterfuck of competing interests and overall stupidity far more coherence than it deserves.

So if the Afghan's were as well-equipped as any army in the world, is it safe to assume that the Taliban is now as well-equipped as any army in the world?
Probably. Its what we saw with ISIS and the Iraqis just taking off.

Issue is two fold for them though. 1> little ability to perform maintenance on the sophisticated equipment without support and supply line 2> as the Iraqis and Afghan forces have shown, equipment is but one piece of whether you are actually a competitive force.

If the media covers the atrocities that are surely going to happen it won't be a good look for him.
But as Lukewarm Carl @Willthiswork said - it was always going to be an ugly exit.

But the optics of being completely wrong about the Afghans being able to defend themselves and the speed in which they failed isn't great.

Unless Chynah helps them out.

I will concede this point. The 'no helicopters off the embassy roof' line is going to fuck him pretty hard.

the only people who are going to care about that are non-biden voters anyway

this is anecdotal, but i voted for biden in 2020. wont in 2024. but every time i read a post here about that roof comment, i laugh and then forget about it. it means nothing

im actually thinking that leaving afghanny will be a big win for biden overall, regardless of the chaos that ensues

In 45 minutes Biden is due to speak regarding the Afghanistan fiasco.

I really, really hope he doesn't come across as the geriatric boob that we are always poking fun of.

This isn't the time to look weak. Big, big moment for him.
