Haven't quite hit the peak daily cases yet, but they will. Death toll is much lower because of vaccinations. But still, the short answer is 'yes', it is worse, because they will never get elimination and neither will we from our burgeoning outbreak, which is fast getting out of control. Delta doesn't fuck around.
We just passed 200 days combined in the 6 Melbourne lockdowns. That's not just days under heavy restrictions, that's days in what is considered full lockdown.
The interesting part from here isn't what happens with Melbourne and Sydney, both of which have acknowledged that once we hit 70% vaccinations, it's a big covid party. It's how Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide respond when we just open up the floodgates and unleash our disease on them.

I know it's Delta and it's more transmissible, but do authorities have any clue as to how it's still spreading despite the heavy lockdown?

FYI Many of the memes you repost are also full of misinformation and can aid in the massive divide and conquer campaign used against all people across the world...I know you view them as simple "jokes", but they are an effective tool that convinces many people what and how to think/view topics they have done zero research into.
Nobody here has clean hands on that front IMO
FYI 70% isn't stopping anything in my state if you believe the numbers being released.

It may or may not be a chip, some would gladly accept one.
Digital passport for entry to venues, stores, buildings, travel is not far away...it is being tested as we speak in american cities and some foreign countries.
Main point IMO is that people will become scannable n trackable.
