I had a similar experience yesterday. As I sat at the table I thought to myself "It's utter insanity that people are pretending this works."
Well I think it's doing something as opposed to nothing.
Letting the perfect be the enemy of the good isn't the answer.
And we can't expect people to be consistent. I mean, they're people.

The problem isn't perfect being the enemy good. The problem is not good being sold as perfect. Our ICU numbers here are closing in on their previous pandemic peak and that's with close to an 80% vaccination rate. At some point it needs to be acknowledged that we've been and continue to be lied to, and we need to come up with actual solutions.

San Francisco Mayor Defends Maskless Night Out: ‘We Don’t Need the Fun Police’ to ‘Micromanage’
San Francisco Mayor London Breed (D) responded to criticisms to her night out partying, violating the city’s mask mandate, contending that people “don’t need to fun police” to “micromanage” what they should be doing.

Last week, Breed went to the city’s Black Cat nightclub and spoke to the San Francisco Chronicle’sMariecar Mendoza, who spotted her at the venue and observed that the Democrat mayor did not wear a face covering throughout the night, despite local restrictions requiring “almost everyone” to wear a face covering in indoor public spaces.

“Breed — who had a table of drinks in front of her and was often holding one — spent the night dancing, singing along and posing for photographs without a face covering,” Mendoza wrote, recapping the night. At the time, Breed told Mendoza that everyone in the venue had to show proof of vaccination, which gave her “a lot of reassurance.”

“I’ve been very careful, not just because I want to set an example but because I don’t want to get COVID,” the Democrat mayor said.

The mayor’s explanation did not bode well with critics, who highlighted the hypocrisy.

“If she didn’t wear the mask then nobody has to wear a mask. Actually, I’m going to take mine off right now,” Santo Esposito, owner of il Cilentano restaurant, saidaccording to ABC 7:

Esposito said the Mayor’s actions were simply unfair after all the restrictions they’ve had to follow to remain open.
“Especially for restaurant owners. A lot of my friends shut down their business already. They failed I’m still here but we are still fighting,” said Esposito.
Breed, however, has addressed criticisms, claiming she did “everything I thought that was appropriate.”

“We don’t need the fun police to come in and micromanage and tell us what we should or shouldn’t be doing,” she said during an interview, contending she was drinking at the time and started dancing because she was “feeling the spirit” and “wasn’t thinking about a mask,” according to reports.

“No. I’m not going to sip and put my mask on, sip and put my mask up, eat and put my mask on,” she stated. “While I’m eating and drinking, I’m gonna keep my mask off.”

Currently, current public health orders state that “almost everyone must wear a mask” in the city.

“You must now wear a mask in indoor public buildings even if you are fully vaccinated,” the city’s website reads.

Mask rules within bars can make perfect sense, depending on how it is actually enforced.

You keep people distanced, you keep them masked when they pass by strangers, and only take the mask off once seated. Obviously they are still going to infect all the cunts at their own table, but you minimize the chance of spreading it to other random cunts. This system worked incredibly well in Australia last year. It's not good enough to stop random spread vs Delta, but it still helps minimize spread.

Obviously some drunk bitch dancing, singing and taking photos all night with every maskless, plague-ridden leper in the venue doesn't fall under the 'perfect sense' enforcement category though.

The MIT study says otherwise. You're inside that building for hours, sitting at your table unmasked, or masking to walk to the can is not going to make a lick of difference.

I don't know what specific study you're referring to, but I know you are misinterpreting it.

And they should.
It shouldn't stop anybody from getting vaccinated at this point, however such a study on expectation and commonality is important in continuing trust and setting expectations with those that get vaccinated
hilarious

MIT study is one of equations in a perfect mixed air environment.

A restaurant or bar is not said environment.
Indeed you see hot spots and these are proven in real world examples where covid patients do not infect those at the table next to them but rather at whatever table is closest to the air return.

Probably the most important MIT study on the topic is this one

Which highlights how disingenuous and weaponized a single study data has become by turning it into visualization and spreading.

The MIT study on a perfectly mixed environment of air is analogous to the various vape experts vaping through their masks to show that masks don't work. And yet study after study in actual practice do show they work.

Restaurants and bars are inherently dangerous places for spread of respiratory disease due to our lack of focus on HEPA filters and other ventilation. If you're going to go out, do what I do and find the patios.

The studies that show tables not getting each other sick when next to each other but only during air return highlight the real world discrepancy and it perfectly mixed their environment. And as such they also imply masking while being your others may limit spread to them. But we should also be talking about ventilation and HEPA filters.
