But our current system is broken. We need to enforce existing monopoly laws that are largely ignored and end the business models of infinite growth and consolidation.
So you want to move more towards socialism and further away from free market capitalism?

We are already in a largely socialist society. It's necessary and I'm fine with it.
How do you figure that?

But full on socialism doesn't work - that's been proven time and time again.
Full on anything doesn't work. The world is far more complex than that, and humans have the same flaws no matter what system we devise. No political or economic system will or can eliminate human greed, ignorant arrogance, or tribalism.

But our current system is broken. We need to enforce existing monopoly laws that are largely ignored and end the business models of infinite growth and consolidation.
Yep.

The problem isn't unchecked socialism, or even unchecked capitalism. It's unchecked corporatism, tribalism, and anti-intellectualism.

But yeah, when you look at how easy it is for the Bezoses and Trumps of the world to pay virtually nothing in income tax, while tens of millions of peasants applaud that and say that it just shows that tax rates on billionaires should be lowered...... yeah, there's problems, all right.

Not necessarily.
Monopolies prohibit competition and constrict a free market. That's why they are (or should be deemed as) illegal. Competition is healthy for a successful economy, which is also why I'm not a fan of full-blown socialism.

A free market is not a free market if gintervention is involved.

A free market will govern itself, that is the main concept.

I am actually surprised you’re calling for more big govt intervention in your economy.

A free market does govern itself - to an extent. But if allowed to run completely free from law, you end up with few purchasing options, collusion and unchecked price manipulations. Large corporations buy up any competition that might come their way and they become bigger. It's a snowball rolling down a never-ending hill.

I'm not really looking for more govt intervention. I'm looking for them to enforce the laws they already have in place.
