Yes, I think the Italian director did write some scenes to have comedic elements, and fans sometimes miss that.
For me the gold standard is The Room. Sincere but very misguided director who writes acts and finances. Total creative control, and unintentionally funny.
Never seen The Room but I've heard good/bad things, maybe I should check it out
It's rare that the hype is real.
But, sincere director/producer/star. Bad dialogue, epically bad. Bad storytelling. Bad acting. The cinematography is worth watching on its own lack of merit.
It's a movie so bad it wraps around to being entertaining.
The lead chick gets the bone four times in the first thirty minutes by two different dudes. Nice nips.

To be fair half the horror movies of the 80's 90's were comically bad tho. maybe they thought this shit would be actually scary compared to other shit, but one of my all time favorite cheesy horror movies was from Craven. bad acting, weak plot but it had an atmosphere about it that made the whole thing fun to watch.
