That or they're just adapted to not getting into a fight if it's not worth it.

That bear is not 300 pounds lol. Especially where their ranges would overlap in the north, brown bears are bigger than in the south. Just compare the size of it to the polar bears. Knowing Polar bears are 772–1,543 pounds, you can safely say the bear is much larger than 300 pounds. Also, the polar bears may have already eaten their fill, or they are weak and starving. If a polar bear thinks it's worth it it will take on just about anything, even a full grown male walrus.
