I'm posting this again because it's a big deal. This entire system, which may be the largest in the state, is shutting down the OR for anything other than emergencies because of staffing issues caused by early retirements, people taking travel assignments, and omicron/Covid infections along with the floors being maxed out with people being hospitalized. A few of the Bon Secours hospitals are doing the same.

It's getting ugly out here.

I saw the hospital organizations pushing for legislation that caps traveled nursing salaries lol

I absolutely despise hospital systems. They pay their nurses too low. They don't make preparations. And then to maintain profits and their high administrator salaries. They want to cap salaries for competition.

Do you follow Adam Fein or subscribe to his free Drug Channels Institute report? He is brilliant and one of few analysts out there who will call health systems out for their BS. If you think you despise hospital systems now, check out his stuff and you’ll move to loathing them.

Like "cancer" the "common cold" describes a myriad of diseases from various etiologies. Coronavirus make a single group of viruses that contribute to the common cold but there are many more.
You probably wont get a "cold vaccine" or "cancer vaccine" before we genetically engineer ourselves or have antibody treatments against the commonalities of any viral infection or failed cell DNA repair.
I think you'd be surprised.

It's becoming painfully apparent that the medical system is prolonging this pandemic.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry was asked Friday how hospitalizations are counted, and two years into the pandemic, it’s still a work in progress.

“We're trying to tease apart people who are in hospital from COVID, people who are in hospital with COVID, and people who are in hospital because COVID exacerbated one of the underlying conditions,” she said.

“It's not easy to do that, except by going and looking at every individual chart.”

She said the province is working on making tracking hospitalizations more automated and less labour intensive.

Right now, B.C. is counting everyone in the hospital with a COVID positive test as a hospitalization.

That lumps in people who were checked into the hospital directly because of COVID-19 with people who tested positive during screening while receiving treatment for something else or prior to a surgery. People who catch the virus in the hospital as a part of an outbreak are also included in the count.

“So it is an overestimation of the burden that Omicron is causing, but it is a number that we get,” Henry said. “It's not 100% accurate every single day because it relies on people counting who's in every single hospital and then collating that information.”

Further complicating things, are the people who were admitted to hospital specifically because of COVID-19 but are no longer infectious and remain in hospital recovering from the ravages of the virus. They are not included in COVID hospitalization figures.

Henry said the provincial government also closely tracks hospitalizations after a confirmed PCR test to measure the severity of the illness.

She said daily hospitalization statistics released to the public are a “composite” of those two data streams. Health officials across Canada are still trying to figure out the best way to fully understand the impact of Omicron, Henry added.

Health Minister Adrian Dix said Friday the province’s 9,229 base hospital beds are currently at 95.1% capacity. The 2,333 surge beds added for the pandemic are at 25% capacity.

Dix called the figures “not surprising,” noting pre-pandemic, B.C. ran its base bed capacity at 103.5% during the winter flu season. There are also 510 base ICU beds operating at 89% capacity and 218 surge ICU beds operating at 11% capacity.
Fucked isn't it

My gosh this. pisses me off to no end. The partisan bias makes me sick. Really? A Supreme Court justice making false claims to fit a narrative? I don’t care where a judge falls on the political/ideological spectrum, but it should never be so obvious. That goes for liberals and conservatives.
Yep. I agree.

Gorsuch did the same thing just in the opposite direction by claiming that the flu killed hundreds of thousands of people every year but OSHA never felt the need to put mandates in place for it.

They're all ill-informed cunts at best and political shill cunts at worst. It's gross.

No. It's the duty of the people who cut their budgets to strip funding from their stupid vanity projects and put the money back where it belongs.
We see it every summer here in BC, we cut funding to fight forest fires and each year we have record forest fires.

It's crazy to me that the solution seems easy but they are literally throwing everything else at it hoping it works. Now these fuck wits are talking about mandatory vaccination in Canada. How? What about the people who refuse, they going to be fined?

It's frustrating and I'm starting to come to the conclusion they want people to get to their breaking points.

We've made zero fucking progress it feels, get on with it already
