In 2014 after the regular forces had given up and fled a neo-nazi militia kept fighting against the Russians and got official batallion status. They’re the Azov batallion. The idea of Slavic Nazis is hilarious but unfortunately they do exist.
Slavic nazis is funny. I got some friends from Serbia and Bosnia and they are really cool. I mean if I'm being honest they kinda suck cause they are leg humping wrestlers. But still good people

per the Globe and Mail:

But Russian forces had already entered the city, Mr. Buchnyev said in an interview. Those forces, which include Chechen fighters and the Russian army, had engaged in a kind of negotiation Wednesday in which they said they merely wanted to “take only a couple of photos” to send proof that they had “really taken this position next to the nuclear power plant,” Mr. Buchnyev said.

The people of Enerhodar refused.

The Russian representatives also said they wanted to “free our nuclear power plant from our army,” Mr. Buchnyev said. Their attack force included representatives from Rosatom, the Russian state atomiс energy corporation, he said.

So instead of halting NATO expansion Putin accelerated it right to his door step? Finland and Sweden?
Pretty sure those Russian lives he was trying to save went out the window once those shells started flying.
So much for a greater Russia he wanted. I would assume now Ukrainians will turn their backs on Russia. No matter what happens now, there will be a whole lot of animosity. Not only is the west supplying them there is 1 million refugees seeking help in Western countries.
Geopolitical fallout is pretty bad.
Not to mention even if he does take Ukraine is he able to hold it.
