I know. The wording on all this stuff is world war 2 and other older lingo about despoiling and dignity.

US media has published photos of dead Marines and dead enemies. I'm not sure just video taping the routine non criminal acts is illegal.

I'm not a lawyer so I'll just post one:

Bob Muth, a law professor at the University of San Diego and a former Marine, said posing with a dead body for a photo is not automatically a crime, but it could be. KPBS spoke to Muth about the complexities involved and how someone could be held accountable if a crime is determined.

Q: If a military member poses for a photo with a dead body, are they committing a crime? A: The actual posing with the dead body does not necessarily make it a crime. It could, but it’s a contextual question. It’s not just as simple as answering the question: Did they take a picture? You would need to have the context upon which the photo was actually taken and you have to see what it actually depicts. Depending upon what the picture shows and the context that surrounds the nature of when this picture was taken, where it was distributed, that would would be pretty critical to understanding whether or not it would be a war crime.

Q: Can you give an example of a situation where posing with a dead body may not be considered a crime? A: You can imagine a situation where a Marine, who’s in a combat zone could have a photo of them on the battlefield and there could be an enemy combatant who appears in the picture either by happenstance or just as part of the picture. The concern really with respects to the laws of war is that we are not humiliating or desecrating a body or in some way trying to embarrass either a prisoner or an enemy that was killed in combat.

This is a serious point...against other people who are exaggerating Ukraine's Nazi problem to justify the invasion and killing of completely innocent Ukrainians. It is just bad as 'orcs'. But it would be a very unfair thing to suggest I am doing.

I know literal 'Nazis' are a miniscule number in Ukraine. But they aren't tiny and marginalized enough. The main issue is far-right nationalism and extremism targeted at a significant minority of Ukraine's population, not literal 'Nazism'. It's a red herring for both sides.

The reason to focus on literal Nazis at all is just to say that if they have been given legitimacy in the Ukrainian government, and they have, then what does that say about the more 'moderate' extremist elements that are even more mainstream and legitimized?

My problem has always been that so many people are completely overlooking the innocent Russian-speaking Ukrainians who are being killed while they pretend to care about 'Ukrainians', as if these people are 'Russians' - which perpetuates exactly the same type of dehumanization. It's a morally bankrupt disgrace.

Also, Paige Van Zant is starting to look like Mr Magoo herself. Needs to lay off the special K and cheeseburgers.

The only way we should be involved militarily is if our leaders acknowledge their culpability in this situation. At which point there can be a moral argument made that we need to help these people after we fucked them. I doubt that happens because then our governments will have to acknowledge that Putin isn't the crazed lunatic they've made him out to be.

Regarding a no fly zone specifically there's really no practical difference between that and just declaring open warfare.

If an individual personally feels that strongly that something needs to be done the Ukrainian government is more than happy to take foreigners into their legion. That statement isn't directed at you, but my social media feeds are flooded with people who think we need to send people who aren't them to war in order to defend Ukraine.
