go ahead and start your list of gov'ts that have highly restrictive firearm ownership and are oppressors of human rights.

it's going to take a while.
Mate, your government is much more oppressive than mine is. There's one person in this entire country serving life without the possibility of parole, and he had to murder 51 random strangers to do it (in a few minutes, with his AR-15, after having no training whatsoever.)

Your prison state is WAY out of control, your police are equipped and act like an occupying army, your government is completely beholden to megacorporations, your worker's rights are negligible, and your social safety net is pathetic. Every country has problems, but you want to talk about a brutal government? I know a bunch of cops, and not one of them walks up to a routine traffic stop with their hand resting on top of a gun.

So let's ban something and make 10M more criminals amirite?

And obviously none of those things contribute to social violence.

It's just the guns

Why not? What did they do about all of the armed drivers that they encounter and need to be ready to shoot in defense?
Ironically, after the buyback no one showed up to, they should probably be more nervous now than they were before.

Well...... people aren't just going to be carrying firearms in their cars. That's not really a thing.

Also, criminals with warrants who have some meth in the car, aren't going to be looking at a mandatory life sentence or 20 years inside if they're caught with that. They don't have everything on the line. That makes a big, big difference.

At sports games, there's cops around and none of them are holding guns. When a couple of drunks get into a fight, a couple of cops come and break it up and wrestle them to the ground and arrest them, and everybody stands around and cheers and commentates, and a couple of guys might help out if they're struggling. Then they get taken away, banned from the stadium and given some community service on the weekends. There's not the same police culture of us vs them in routine interactions with the public, and that by itself is in a huge part down to the near total absence of guns in everyday non-farming life.

Here if you live on a farm, you have a few guns. If you don't live on a farm or ever go out into the country but you still have a gun or a few guns..... that's quite weird, and a lot of people will be quite put off you by that.

the concept of an illegal weapon infringes upon my liberties. i will fly a nuclear-armed f-35 over the white house as is my right to have any weapon the government has
