1) The memes are savage and sadly, you know they are pretty deserved. You don't put together a tin can and charge a quarter million to go in it and not expect flack when it goes wrong.

2) Only in america would someone try to make this a political issue. Americans love their politics and are rabid and irrational about it.

Carbon fiber is 10 times stronger than steel.

I believe that it was other parts that failed first.

I"m saying I'm not really down with going to the depths and pressure of the ocean, and if so, I am certainly not trusting that sub or basically any sub. I want it over engineered as fuck to go far far deeper than I plan on going...if using bolts I want them thicker than a whale's penis.

If you don't want to go in the ocean, cool, neither do I. But let's not pretend something is under-engineered because it uses bolts instead of welds.

I was one of the original designers of the Titanic.

I designed it to withstand a medium sized iceberg.

I didn't even know large icebergs exist.
