Much of what Carlson said Wednesday a more mainstream Canadian audience would find repugnant, from railing against trans people to claims that Canadians are being replaced — and politically disenfranchised — by an influx of immigration. This idea, commonly referred to as the great replacement theory, is one of his common American talking points that he is now applying to Canada.
Carlson is well known for pushing untrue ideas in his home country, notably, that the 2020 election was fraudulent. (Though texts produced as part of the defamation suit between Fox and Dominion Voting Systems seemed to suggest he had his doubts at the time.) Turns out that he has untrue ideas about Canada — that kids in B.C. are being given fentanyl (while some may qualify for safe supply, it's very rare and mostly not fentanyl), that children are being castrated.
The former Fox News star clearly packed his rhetoric and conspiracy theories for his trip north and found some eager listeners.
