As of 3 years ago, all my bought seeds are organic non-gmo reputable heirlooms, or they're my own harvested.
Although have have piles and piles of other seeds from all over.
The refrigeration I speak of is only to maintain longevity, like freezing seeds.

Not growing from seed this year indoors...always start things from seed outside, now is a good time to sow for many seeds
Gonna just buy starts

Mix of laziness and focusing on other property projects

I use Everwilde Farms, everwilde.com. I've used Baker Creek before, but they are just too expensive and barely give you any seeds. For example, at Everwilde Farms I order the 1oz (20,000 seeds) lettuce packs and it's under $8. That's more seed than you can shake a stick at. Baker Creek doesn't even off that option because they are making a killing off their little $3 packs. I can say I do like Baker Creek for exotics though.

I harvested 3 3 gallon pots of carrots just now. First pic shows yield of 1 pot. Check out the monster white one. Nonidea where that came from.

These two are quite cozy.

I have a lemon tree, key lime tree, & 2 avacado trees coming this week.
9 blackberry plants going in the ground.
Getting ready to set up timers & water lines.

One of my blackberry plants is already flowering. I think it's the Black Magic variety. Really odd to have it flowering this early.

Mine are Ouchita and an Ark-something hybrid with guaranteed yields of 3-foot blackberries & pussy.

That costs more than 200 pounds of carrots.
What's your business model?
I chop and drop waste from most crops, then recharge it about once a year with cow compost. Every now and again I add new soil. I'm not mass scale growing, so the initial buy in wasn't bad, let alone that was back when prices were $7 a bag for 2.2 cubic feet. A bit different now, obviously.

I'm gonna try juicing my waste & making a tea for quick action.

Got a tractor? or Excavator?

I would make some large compost rows to gather soil from

get the various components delivered in mass quantity, or deliver them yourself

start the cult, feed the masses

How is the native soil ?

I've got black magic, baby cakes, then a golden raspberry called anne (which is absolutely epic - need more of those). None of the blackberry or raspberry varieties are rated for my growing zone, but I still get it done even if results aren't optimal. The birds appreciate it too...fuckers.

start the cult
I'm working on a new religion at the moment.
Having ChatGPT write the ancient documents, categorizing them by:

1. Planetary portal manuscrpits.
2. Pyramidian mathematics
3. Sun gods

Basically it's the Stargate script, but with new and exciting characters that change faces.
So a mix of DC politicians in there too.

It really all boils down to how quickly you want results. Immediate results cost some money, but long term results really don't. Raised beds are instant gratification, whereas in-ground beds aren't (unless you spend some money). There are websites that you sign up to for tree services to drop off their wood chips/mulch for free. They don't have need or space for it, so they are more than happy to dump it anywhere. If you build your soil with that you will have incredible nutrient rich soil, but that takes time for everything to break down and get to that point. Farmers often say that the best time to build soil is 10 years ago. I have shit clay soil here, so I make due with raised beds. If I had more property I'd absolutely be getting tons of the free wood chips/mulch dropped off until I was up to my ears in it.

Rocky clay.
Very good for growing metamorphic rocks.
you need shitloads of organics I would think
maybe some growing vegetation...burning it...mixing it...repeat?

Not sure, haven't dealt with that much
South Willamette Valley is mostly amazing soil 2-3 feet deep then you hit clay/or round cobble from ancient flood plains

All my wood chips are cedar unfortunately, but makes for excellent walkways.
I just bribe the tree guys with Modelo & tacos.

Yes, I agree

I go for quick results because my lot is small, I prefer raised beds and I do order large piles of soil for pots and beds(10+)

I only mention a larger operation because I am under the impression that he has a much greater size lot than I. Probably a lot of work to transform it into super fertile ground.

Once the cult arrives I'll be in business.
