Based on everything I've read, it should have been covered by the local cops since it was outside of the protected zone. But also, whomever was in charge of the Secret Service there is still supposed to maintain control and give direction, even to the locals.

Sounds like the USSS called attention to that area, the locals were aware, the USSS didn't follow up to make sure the locals were actually on top of it, then the cop that supposedly confronted the assbag decided to save his own skin AND do nothing to draw attention to anyone else.

Whole lot of clusterfuckery occurred. Seriously, if the cop was going to pull a Uvalde and hide, couldn't he have blown up the radio for assistance or fired a random shot into the air or screamed like a banshee? Not saying that the last two are good options but they're obviously better than shitting your pants silently.
Yeah, that matches up with what I've read. Except the SS snipers behind Trump were already looking that way with binoculars prior to the shooting, so I think the cop or at least someone did get word to them. From there the snipers switch to their scopes/guns. To me, that means they were able to identify a potential target already. I don't know why they didn't shoot prior to the shooter shooting.

I'm guessing the SS throws shade at Congress for underfunding them and blaming understaffing for the misstep, and the cop that was suppose to cover that area will lose his job.

I don't believe for 1 sec the ss would say we will guard this side and you get that side. No way they wouldn't be in charge of every inch within rifle range. No fucking way.

According to The Jerk - that can be a tough assignment.
