So I've been living with my girlfriend and her parents for a little while now, and her dad is out of hand. He's perpetuating generational trauma and I feel like i'm not doing my job as a man if I do not protect my girlfriend from him. All the time now he's constantly disrespecting her and me saying thing's like we are lazy, we don't do anything around the house, and that we both need to get jobs. Clearly he doesn't understand the economic situation our generation inherited from his, and he's too broken to understand the mental health ramifications of us getting jobs. We both struggle with crippling anxiety and it's simply not possible. I help out when I can where it's needed but i'm currently trying to become a twitch streamer and I've been seeing some success. This sometimes gets in the way of me waking up to do things, and causes arguments with him/my girlfriend about how loud I am late at night. Clearly he just doesn't care about our dreams or understand how much money I stand to make at this long term.
I've had it with this guy. Always bad mouthing me to my girlfriend and never has anything good to say to her. Not only that but he hugs her a lot and tells her that he loves her, which I feel is disrespectful to me. That is my girlfriend now and he should clearly see that the dynamics have changed, and physical boundaries come with that. If this continues to escalate I will have to challenge him for dominance in this household. I have talked to my girlfriend about this and she thinks i'm overreacting and said she doesn't think I could take him. Granted he is a bit bigger than me and has been working construction his whole life, but he's old. I have also been watching a lot of Craig Jones videos and recently saved up for a gi from Fumetsu.com. I can't really afford to take BJJ yet but I have been watching a lot, practicing certain movements, and visualizing. Question is what specific techniques should I employ on this guy. I would prefer not to hurt him, but I need him to know I am now the alpha male of our house now. The old bull best move on before he gets moved on, and I'm willing to take this as far as it needs to go to protect my love from this abusive behavior. What should I do guys?
