Best guitar player, that is quite subjective. It's all about preference and taste. There are so many (unknown and session) guitar players out there that are technically more sound and accurate than our famous guitar heroes. Buchanan was one of those guys that poured his soul into his guitar, a howling sound. A sound embraced by the likes of Hendrix and Jeff Beck.

Goose bumps...

My favorites are: Dave Gilmour, Robin Thrower, Johnny Winter, Hendrix, and yes, John Fogerty.

I'll say that dude for Pink Floyd redefined what a lead guitar is....he's kind of unique.
Conventionally, I'll say Page....and yes, I know I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Great song writer, and definitely had his own sound. I'm a huge fan, BUT. His guitar play was limited. He had a very simplistic approach (Perkins style). While the Beatles are known to have written and performed one of the best songs of the last century, there is not one single guitar solo that is the likes of Eagles - Hotel California, Pink Floyd - Time in any of their songs.

With an exception of thier guitar play in Carry That Weight medley from the Abbey Road album in which John, Paul, and George all, provided an awesome guitar solo.

To me there is no best but all these guys did influential and unique sounds, allman is my favorite though, all his session work showed how diverse he was
