and no, its not up for debate IMO.

the top 5 guitar players of all time are

1. Blackmore
2. Zappa
3. Van Halen
4. Brian May
5. BB King
I will give you BB but all others are easily interchangeable with just as good, if not greater palyers, in all sorts of different genres.

I'll say that dude for Pink Floyd redefined what a lead guitar is....he's kind of unique.
Conventionally, I'll say Page....and yes, I know I have no idea what I'm talking about.
That dude would be David Gilmour and he didn't redefine anything. He simply took what he loved and did it well.

No disrespect, I absolutely love the guy and he's one of the biggest reasons I picked up the guitar.
He obviously draws most of his inspiration from 12 bar blues (bb king etc) not a speedy/flashy player at all but I remember an interview with another guitar player Page or Clapton or somebody like that saying Gilmour could do more with one note than most guitarists could do with the whole fret board.

Gilmour was great if not the greateast at inflection. He knew when to pause, hammer on/off, bend, slide etc.

I'm just rambling at this point but this is such a subjective topic.

On a side note would anybody consider Keith Richards rythm or lead?

I'm surprised Santana has not been mentioned. He is the second name that comes to my mind (Clapton comes first but he has already been mentioned). This song isn't overly complex to show off his skills, but I'm posting it because it's simply my favorite Santana song.

santana wasn't a very technical guitar player he just had a good tone and was good at making catchy songs,I love santana ,but he wasn't on the level of anyone mentioned here, even his protégé orianthi was better.

A simpleton would make a simple list of 5 people for something so subjective. Eddie is a has been and Blackmore doesn't make top 100 anything.
i don't know why he always gets away with saying shit about other members, but the fact that he had to resort to name calling, it should tell you something. lol
