Discourse literally has a Delete User and Delete User and all Posts button on the activity page when viewing a user in the administrator view.

It then gives you a message saying that you should probably just anonymize them to prevent disrupting existing conversations.

So they do that instead.

You know, all this pretty much means the previous owners were complicit in all this shit as we've been told "deleting accounts" was impossible and they could only anonymize. Why? They would spill some non answer tech jargon.
I don't know if that's fair. The previous owners did not do this.

Yes, but as we all know it isn't really "to disrupt existing conversations" and more to defraud the investors.

I vaguely remember something said after the purchase announcement, I think by a mod or former mod. I don’t remember who. That all they could do was that random number anonymous thing. Because both they couldn’t and only a higher up admin or owner could, and that they wouldn’t be allowed to anyway because deleting the data at that time could potentially compromise the sale.

As if it would be deleting Alta’s property or whatever.

There was a bug that caused a timeout when we attempted to delete accounts. When I received admin access a month or two before we were blasted, I confirmed that you could now delete users. I believe that the bugs and janky coding that caused the 502 errors were also connected to the issue with deleting users. Since that is fixed, it’s now pretty easy for anyone with admin access to merge accounts, delete accounts and delete all data.

I did this for a few people who had serious issues coming up with background checks and also merged a few old accounts with newere users so they could post under their old username.

The old owners were not able to fix the bug and Kirik is pretty low tech savvy. But the excuse that they cannot is no longer valid. I confirmed that myself.

I could have worded it better. They aren't doxxers but they had to be in the know prior to the sale.

What do you call putting a stop to deleting accounts long before anyone heard about the site being sold? Its shady behavior at best by the previous and new owners. I know some of you had history but I didn't really know them just used their forum so I can objectively say FUCK THEM ALL.

BOOLSHEET TECHNOBABBLE. That had to be planted there to make the sale that much more enticing. Its common sense. Lets see how this all plays out. I bet there is at least one previous owner with the knowhow of these actions that is now employed, directly or indirectly at Alta.

I called the site being toast after the sale and rolled your eyes then. I may not work in front of the puters all day but that doesn't mean I haven't rolled around in the mud. These are dirtbags and it takes juan to know juan.

And each of those people should be saving their request and then reporting it to the proper governmental agency.

Each intentional CCPA violation, for example, is a $7500 fine.
I'm completely retarded when it comes to all this shit. Are they held to the CCPA even for users that aren't in California? I think I remember reading in their terms that everything will be handled in California courts. Does that mean that even though I'm in Missouri that they must delete all my shit as per the CCPA?

Yes.

California accepts CCPA complaints from non-residents.

Also... Alta has no idea that you don't live in CA.

I know for a fact that before discourse when you were banned all your posts went with you. When I was legally reinstated by a good mod, salty faggot that banned me was gone by then, he said I could have my old sn back but there would be no posts, like starting over. I said nah, I was a damn dirty neggar and rhinohog turned into a lovable baffoon with 60000+ likes. Thanks to MM who had to straighten me out...lol.

I am not saying they are being forthcoming. I am saying that we had trouble with the site deleting things in the past. Both NiteC and I woudl try before and it would cause the site to error and crash when trying to delete posts or accounts of a user. That wasn’t a lie. It was happening.

Whether that was intentional or unintentional, is not what I am challenging. Just that it was happening to us in both a mod and admin role.

As to your views that it was all known and intentional. I can’t speak to that. But my recent experience informs me that deception is not outside the realm of possibility anymore. My trust for people has definitely been affected.

Yes. The old site with Kirik had a scorched earth policy. The people who were and still remain banned from the old site have their email/username and the indicated perm ban but all posts are generally gone. With discourse, they realized that keeping data around from the prior ban helped to catch old users with their posting habits.

Btw, it technically can be done. I created a new account after a hiatus from the OG during college and my office drone days which lasted till around 2010(had an 01/01/01 acct). So, I came back and couldnt remember my email to reset. I created a new account thinking I was locked out or banned or whatever. I eventually found a laptop that had it stored and used that for years till it broke. Couldnt remember my email so I asked to put my screen name to new email and the unnamed mod that took care of it found an unused alt account. This was around 2015 or so. They deleted the newer account completely and merged me to my new email address.

I think the excuse given after that was "new forum software". Its bullshit. They can most definately delete.
This happened to me I forgot the email I used originally and couldn't reset. I created a new account and used that for a few years. I brought it up one time and a long lost admin helped me get back into my original account.

thats an older interview. He’s been trying to get rich to come on to address what’s going on.
Who is Rich Chou? He is supposed to be Turkish. Some say his father was German. Nobody believed he was real. Nobody ever saw him or knew anybody that ever worked directly for him, but to hear Harlem tell it, anybody could have worked for Chou. You never knew. That was his power. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

You think you can catch Rich? You think a guy like that comes this close to getting caught, and sticks his head out? If he comes up for anything it'll be to get rid of me. After that... my guess is you'll never hear from him again.

And just like that. Poof.

He's gone.
