Jose Aldo finally faces Conor McGregor in a title unification bout this weekend, but it looks like there could be a lot more at stake. In a bit of surprising news, one of Aldo's primary training partners in Andy Souwer revealed that UFC 194's mammoth main event could very well be the final bout for the long time featherweight champion.

Here's how the conversation went as the former K-1 Max champion spoke to MMAPlusTV.

Interviewer: Regardless of win or lose, do you think this is the last time we see Jose Aldo in the Octagon?

Andy Souwer: To be honest, yeah I think. Yeah, I think so.

Interviewer: If he wins, step away on top?

[Souwer nods]

Interviewer: I think if we look at everything that happened with Dana and the UFC... [Souwer nods] and the way they spoke about Aldo. He seemed like a man scorned and a man hurt because he put his life for that organization.

Andy Souwer: Yes. That's true. So I think he's done with it. And ready. I will agree. Whatever he is thinking, it's his decision. But I think it will be good for him.

... Of course (he's going to win). Jose is (the top) pound-for-pound fighter. He will succeed this time also, and it will be a fairytale story. I'll put my money on it.

Love that andy is in Aldos camp...Aldo will be plenty ready for Conor especially is he working with this killer...I hope Aldo rolls out on top then goes elsewhere..

Whatever Aldo choses to do, he's earned the right to do it. Nobody can say shit about him, he's gone in there against killer after killer, had epic wars and always come out on top. True champ, true MMA legend win or lose.

I would not be surprised at all to see Aldo retire. He deserves to, and honestly, killing the Conor hype machine then leaving before he can legitimize any claim to a belt is like the epic "f*ck you!" to the UFC. Although Dana might just be glad that Aldo is out of the way....

Shouldn't he be saying something along the lines of 'Aldo isn't losing this fight he's the best I've ever seen him but regardless of outcome, I think it may very well be the last time we see Jose fight'?

Doesn't sound like Aldo's homie has much confidence in him...

Some people just don't like to do absolute statements all the time. Shit can always happen, like injuries or so. Its really not a big deal to not always pound the drums. Can even be a bad sign.

Not everybody is a Conor McGregor, Souwer has plenty confidence in Aldo but that's not the message he was trying to get across, the fact it may be Aldo's last fight was the point of the message.

Storybook ending would be either a sub or walk-off ko, and then he just keeps walking back to the locker room without waiting for the belt and without waiting for the winner to be announced. A cherry on top would be him putting on a tshirt of one of his true sponsors before he walks out of the cage.

I wanted to see Aldo just try 155 once when Pettis was champ. I still wish their originally scheduled fight had happened. I don't doubt we'd still be talking about it today.

So many fights at LW (and even a couple of FW still) I'd love to see Aldo in, but would be totally understandable if he made this big payday and retired. Don't see him retiring on a loss though, think he's too much of a competitor to not go after and get the immediate rematch.

I don't get this. If Aldo wins he would be riding the best possible wave of exposure, and, finally, gaining serious traction in regards to his legacy and being the GOAT when he does retire. This ppv has the potential to do well over a 1mil buys, assuming he wins, that should help significantly to make him a draw in the US - like Chael did for Anderson - and set him up for a significant increase in the money he is earning per fight.

Not only that, he would become the cover of the EA UFC 2 game, which while, most likely, not earning him any extra money directly, adds to his exposure, prestige, and future bargaining power. As much as everyone would enjoy Aldo sticking it to Dana, in the sort of tables turned way everyone dreams about, it just makes no sense to me for Aldo to walk away at the precipice of achieving everything he wants. It would be like claiming Mount Everest, only to turn back 10 feet before you reach the summit.

You are pretty calling every fighter to fight in the UFC a sell out/prostitute. What a crock of shit. Aldo is not prostituting himself by competing in the UFC, and neither is anyone else. That's ridiculous.

Not everyone, they don't fuk all their employees. Aldo's got zero love whatsoever from his employers, when he's the greatest ever at his job.

Connor hasn't been fuked constantly by them, he's not a prostitute. If Aldo was to stay with them, he couldn't hold his chin up. He don't need more money. Exactly the same situation as Fedor, why work for Satan when you got enough to feed your kids for the rest of their lives?
