Why was he giving Merab shit about Tim Welch breaking the rules?

And all refs have always told the fighters esp in clinch/grappling positions “you gotta work!” But has it ever been as explicit and unfair as Herb pressured Metal? Even standing at the end of the fight when Merab was on his bike?

Very strange for Herb to change over night like this. And very shitty.

His judgement isn't always there, he's also one of Dana's made men, if Herb needs to try and sway the momentum of a fight for Dana he will do so.

I remember Cecil Peoples reffing a fight years ago and the fighter got dropped. He ran in to stop the fight and ended up leg dropping the downed fighter like Hulk Hogan. It was hysterical.

Herb has always been shady in some big fights, even swung a few of them IMO.
Certainly has affected judging by allowing and not allowing fouls in certain spots by certain guys.

He knows what he is doing, so I believe he knows what he is doing when he is being biased as well.

Herb being the worst ref in MMA is the best kept secret in the sport. Pure propaganda with commentators always calling him the best in the business. Then completely refs in the interest of the company in big fights. Among having some of the worst stoppages I've ever seen. Which isn't new btw. Been posting shit like this for like 5 years. Everytime people are like hey he's reffed x amount of fights it's only a few mistakes. Que another year of terrible stoppages, early stoppages, ignoring fouls, confusing ass communication with the fighters, etc. Herb Dean refs like he's a fucking union employee. Oh yeah old Herb put the time in. He was a beast in 98 cut him some slack. Meanwhile he's shaving years off fighters lives or influencing the outcome of fights. Fucking horse shit.

I have a theory that there was a sphere effect that night. 2 fights that normally would have been tko stoppages were allowed to play out, the worst cut in UFC history wasn't even looked at by a doctor, Herb spazzing out barking orders to try to make the main event more exciting. Some fighters just went full blood and guts and put on some of the wildest fights ever.

I think the excitement and grandiosity of the sphere had a big psychological effect and fighters and refs got caught up in it.
