I just hated the old system where some asshole coach could lure some kid in with bullshit promises and then ruin his career or the kid had to gamble a year, maybe more than once, to get a chance to play.

Well the old system was good imo bc a "legal contract" would've been impossible bc there was no NIL so the one free transfer rule was a gamble the boosters played if they were so inclined to do so. We all know they were getting paid but they were still students if only by name. Hopefully this makes sense. It's been a long day.

Nah I think I get it now. Agree the old system was just NIL under the table and athletes (and schools) got punished for getting caught doing what all the top programs did.

The tough part would be what to do with kids that don't merit a contract vs ones that do. I guess they could end up with some base thing like the pro leagues.

I agree to an extent. It needed some changes but unfortunately the same idiots who caused the problems have been in charge of fixing them.

I'm never surprised anymore when clearly wrong parties won't get in front of something and insist on fighting it out in court just for ego.

Yeah it's mind boggling they thought they'd just keep all of the profits and no one would out them OR want their cut. My dad was pretty big in the athletic department fundraising "team" and even he said there's no way it makes sense to pay these players. He gets it now. Old thinking and it bit them in the end.
