General Anyone else have issue with people sharing private moments on social media

In my opinion there are some things that should stay private.

I will use a personal example. Wife and I bought her father's Monte Carlo SS 2 years ago after I was finally able to find it in NC. My MIL sold it after he passed in 2011, never thought she was going to see it again. They toured the country with it and they were national champions with it on the show car circuit.

We surprised her with it and some of the family member's were recording her reaction when she saw it. She literally broke down crying as soon as she saw me pull around the corner with it.

I spoke to all the family members that recorded it and told them to keep this off social media, it's not for you to get likes, it was a private moment moment between mom and dad. If I ever see you post this I will go scorched earth on you.

But you see this shit on social media, would really share a father saying goodbye to his daughter?


Maybe I'm just getting old.

As long as it's not my personal moments, I don't care.

I think it's gross and cringeworthy, but a lot of people are gross and cringeworthy.

I’ve had a couple of instances where someone shared something about me that was none of their business and not their story to tell. Both times those folks were no longer a part of my life. If you can’t trust a friend, then they are not a friend. I don’t have any social media. It doesn’t interest me and I couldn’t care less about the shit that people post. When someone calls me or sends me a text about what someone has posted about me I get aggravated. If I want anyone to know something about me I’ll tell them myself. Guess I’m old and cranky 😂😂

Its definitely weird.

I've never understood recording moments instead of being present in them.

Like if I go to a sporting event... or a concert... or something like that, my phone is going to stay in my pocket. But then you look around and like 20% of people or more are spending their whole time watching the event through the screen of their phone making sure they get a good shot.

Baffles me.

That happened to me a couple months ago, was at a private function and my daughter asked me to sing karaoke with her. We were were belting out Devil went to Georgia and my phone blew up with texts the next morning. I told my daughter I will never do that again, which fucking sucks. It's a core memory for her but some fucking idiot decided to share a personal moment between my daughter and I on social media.

I have good friends that I know nothing about and they know nothing about me. Its great. I dont use any social media at all. I have this forum and a few discord direct messages with actual friends, thats it.

Youtube parents are the absolute worse. Whoring out their kids for fame and money. Ryan toys kid is gonna be a fucking mess. An insanely rich mess.

I have a facebook account to monitor my daughter and Admin my business page. I'm not even friends with my wife on there. Weird the couples that post about how good their lives are always seem to get divorced.

Always blew my mind as well. People who are so worried about recording a video clip, which will likely never be watched back, and in turn they're completely missing the experience they paid to see.

A few years back when GnR first got back together for a tour, my wife and I decided to take each of our mothers along since they both loved GnR on the original go round.

30 minutes in and I genuinely felt old for one of the first times because I was scolding my mother to put her phone away and enjoy the show, like she used to scold me not to bring books to the dinner table.

Just look at the film of Trump getting shot.

The majority just pulled out their phones, like it wasn't really happening 10' in front of them.

Everyone is pretty disconnected from the reality in front of their eyes on a daily basis.

Agreed wholeheartedly.

The absolute worst is fireworks. The cool thing about fireworks is how they fill the sky, and how the big booms resonate in your chest whilst the crackles dance in your ears.

Who wants to be watching that back on a 5 inch screen with a tinny little speaker? Has anyone here ever actually watched a fireworks show recorded on a phone? Who would even do that?

Worst of all, the idiots recording it miss out on the visual spectacle at the time.
