I thought Canada had some of the strictest gun control
It does. Gun control works!!!
They're fitting in pretty well here. They take all the fast food jobs no one else will do and seem to want to be part of the community more than most of the foreigners that our country accepts. I'm very fine with people who are polite and hard working, but that doesn't mean we need to bring in the whole country. My only real beef is that anytime a restaurant closes it reopens as an Indian restaurant and I don't need 14 Indian restaurants within walking distance of my house.
those fast food jobs were supposed to be a canadian kids first job or a senior citizens last part time job. now they are taken by 30 year old foreigners. it used to be hard to get in to canada. now you dont even need to have skills.just show up and work at tim hortons or doordash. we dont need an influx of unskilled labor
We have the same situation here with regard to Persian restaurants replacing all of the ethnic eateries we all used to enjoy, be they Mongolian, Korean, Ethiopan, Lebanese or whatever. It's anti diversity.
The Iranians are Door Dash delivery people and McDonald's cashiers, but they're also doctors, engineers etc. They are a cultured people, but I don't want to live in Iran either.
As soon as COVID hit, kids stopped taking those jobs. There's also a government corruption angle to it with the "international student" thing, but that's a bit of a different story.
Same here in the US, it's impossible to find teenagers to take entry level positions and work.
