Al Shaair is the Draymond Green of the NFL
Knocking out T-bird with a dirty hit isn’t his only offense. He got ejected from the game, but he also deserves a suspension.

That hit wasn't bad
game happens so fast and sliding last second is stupid

T law can slide 5 yards earlier and be safer, he chose to slide last second

Watch it from the other angle. He forearm shivered him right in the face/throat. It was 100% intentional.
If the guy didn't already have a history of dirty hits i'd be more likely to think it was just a mistake. He got suspended 3 games in part for his " repeated violations of rules intended to protect the health and safety of players."
The Vontaze Burfict category.

He's one of those high motor, low IQ players

That is fine, only saw it full speed and not familiar with his history

I am speaking to the sliding late in general, it is a chickenshit rule and move. You can't become a runner to gain yards and then expect protection. It is very similar to the Mahomes sideline antics which you don't enjoy. The rule is BS. IMO when you become a runner as a QB anything should be allowed other than face masking.

That wasn't even really a late slide though. But yeah in the era of very mobile qbs, i think the slide rule should be done away with.
It was put in place to protect slow statues like Drew Bledsoe lol
In my opinion, if you are going to advance the ball past the line of scrimmage, you don't get additional protections. You don't want to get hit hard? Don't run up the middle of the field like a dope.

Ok, I get it.

To me any slide is chickenshit after you are running for positive yards. Protections should be gone the second you scramble outside the pocket or past the LOS. Should a running back get the same call? Can a RB just slid late as defenders converge on him and expect a flag. QB becomes a running back in that situation. That is how I see it.

I'm old school and prefer the hard hitting style of football though, the era where players didn't even think about asking for a flag. Protect yourself and your teammates via scheme and decision making, not rules.

All runners are afforded this protection, not just QBs. You should absolutely be able to give your self up to stop the advancement of a play. You really only see RBs do it to close out a game when they slide instead of scoring a touchdown so they can kneel down to end the game, but it's an option for all ball carriers.

Let's be honest though, literally no one does that. And the penalties are hyper increased on QB runners. The refs are way more likely to throw a 15 yard flag on a qb, then on any other ball carrier. Take away that trigger finger flag, and you can let the slide rule stay. Otherwise, it needs to NOT be a thing. Slide all you want, defender can still crack you as long as it's not to the head.

It today's football, the QBS are just as much an offensive weapon running the ball as a running back. Yet you are barely able to hit them in varying degrees from the refs looking the other way if Cam Newton took a shot to them throwing a flag if you blink at Mahomes wrong.

You're not wrong, I just don't think the answer is to let safeties obliterate QBs. Honestly, I'm fine with the QBs taking a hit on a slide as long as it's not to the head. What happened to T-Law is the exact thing these guys should be protected from.

I don't think they need to let safeties obliterate the qb. I just think there should be no protection for sliding. You can slide to stop the play great....but you can still take a shot, as long as it's not a shot that would be a penalty on the feet, like a helmet hit. No difference between putting your shoulder into a guy on his feet, or a guy on teh ground that's sliding imo.

End the nonsense of treating running qbs like glass when it comes to flags, when those running qbs are guys like Allen, Lamar, and Mahomes. You want to minimize your risk of an injury? Don't run past the line of scrimmage into the middle fo the field.

Mahomes is absolutely a prissy faggot when it comes to manipulating the rules for hitting a QB. Allen doesn't give a fuck, he just plows people over like a meathead.

The problem is that when you slide if they hit the chest then contact will also end up hitting head/helmet due to the angle of the body/chest.

Then as a defender, that's the risk you take for the reward of punishing a player that is not advancing the ball.
He was advancing the ball though
QB has the option to not cross line of scrimmage and retain all of his protections

Game happens too fast to put all of that on the defense IMO.
I'm speaking in general about the slides, not necessarily that play from Sunday.

Slides have led to lots of Concussions of QBs, that won't change because the game indeed happens so fast. Rule needs to be tweaked or QBs need to not pretend to be ball carriers past the LOS with extra protections.

Just my take.

But thats the thing... ANY player can give themself up and slide.

Its not an extra protection for a QB... its there for anyone.

agreed. NO additional protections, which means no additional flags than any other ball carrier would receive

That is fine

Slide and give yourself up in open field then, and not when running full speed. Sliding when defenders get close enough to make a hit is chickenshit stuff.

I see the need to have that slide available, I'm saying it is being abused and it leads to those types of hits just as much as it provides protection.

It is, but other players do not get the benefit of the refs hair trigger flags that QBs get. That's the disparity. This one was an obvious foul.
Far too many are not though, and espeically with the other aspect...the sideline faggotry that Mahomes does. It's the NFL equivalent of LeBron's flopping faggotry

If a defender does NOT tackle/hit you because he's worried about a foul, then that's the advantage to the QB, and they use it to manipulate the rules to give them an advantage.

Joe Flacco got obliterated on a slide just like Lawrence

I think QBs get the hair trigger flags in the pocket... but once they are moving and not named Patrick Mahomes, they don't get calls.

Lamar never gets calls... in or out of the pocket.

Lamar doesn't play the slide game

He dives head first and doesn't make himself a sliding easy target
