I don't get this point of view.Russia could always just go back to their own country and stop invading neighbors.
Do you have any idea who runs the Brookings Institute?Even Gorbachev says that NATO never promised not to expand. Hopefully this can finally shut down the Russian propaganda about NATO.
Did NATO Promise Not to Enlarge? Gorbachev Says "No"
Russian President Vladimir Putin has made it well known his antipathy towards NATO, claiming the Alliance took advantage of Russian weakness after the collapse of the Soviet Union in violation of promises allegedly made to Moscow by Western leaders. Steven Pifer argues that no such promises were...www.brookings.edu
Fair. USA has invaded way more countries than Russia has post WW2. Probably more than any other single country.Russia could always just go back to their own country and stop invading neighbors.
Which countries are the USA occupying and anexxing for themselves?Fair. USA has invaded way more countries than Russia has post WW2. Probably more than any other single country.
So I hope you share that opinion for them as well.
Yes, no.Sparkuri, do you live in the US and have you ever served in the US military?
If that is the measuring stick, than the Roman Empire didn't exist, the Ottoman empire didn't exist....no empire existed.Which countries are the USA occupying and anexxing for themselves?
USA just finished a 20 year occupation of Afghanistan lol. Wtf are you even saying? PS it's not the only country they've occupied lately.Which countries are the USA occupying and anexxing for themselves?
I was surprised at your stance about NATO. I had never seen that thinking in anyone that served before. To me NATO is a useful alliance.Yes, no.
Only where other countries allow them. Several years back the Philippines wanted the US bases gone so the US pulled out.If that is the measuring stick, than the Roman Empire didn't exist, the Ottoman empire didn't exist....no empire existed.
Now we are getting it historical/territorial definitions, which is fine.
But to save A LOT of time, it would be better to use the long-held/used definition.
Military outposts.

Having a presence/base in a country is not an occupation. But to clarify, the difference between what the US does and what Russia does is pretty different. Having a base in a country is not annexing and keeping another country for themselves like Russia does. How do you think Russia grew into the largest country in the world?USA just finished a 20 year occupation of Afghanistan lol. Wtf are you even saying? PS it's not the only country they've occupied lately.
USA has occupied a shit load of countries for many many years.
Multiple occupations are currently happening globally.
Look what's happening right now, you have turkey and Israel scooping up parts of Syria. Turkey obviously been occupying northern Cyprus for decades. China's Communist Party was illegally occupying china for 30 years before it was recognized internationally as actual governing party, ROC had a government in exile.
Etc, etc. Dozens and dozens of occupations in last half century including multiples at the hands of the USA.
And USA by contrast got to the size it did by what exactly? LOL.Having a presence/base in a country is not an occupation. The secret is to look at what Russia does and not listen to what they say. They will constantly lie with the ultimate goal being to take more land for themselves.
The USA did not wheel in massive amounts of artillery and blow up the homes and people that were already living there. The USA was not a settled country with an active government at the time. Migrants came here and settled the land and set up a government. And USA by contrast got to the size it did by what exactly? LOL.
