Every time Baltimore loses, a bunch of the fan base calls for John Harbaugh's job.Just about every modern take from the mob is a knee jerk reaction void of perspective.
More differences between well run and shitty organizations.I have not seen anyone comment on this and I could be totally wrong in this but I kinda feel like there has been a change of culture in the NFL in regards to HC's filling out their coaching staff. I'm speaking primarily on new HC hires who are on the younger side but it feels like GMs are having much more say in who the coords are.
The culture used to be that when a guy gets a HC job he already had his staff in mind and those were guys he has a working relationship with for years. There was a "Hey if I get a HC job you are gonna be my OC/DC and if you get a HC job I'll be your OC/DC". Outside of the Shanahan coaching tree it does not feel like that is happening with some of these new HC hires. They have not been around long enough to develop a strong network of coaching relations.
I look at Robert Saleh wanting to keep Mike Lafleur as his OC and being told no. I look at Mike McDaniel having a new DC every year hes been a HC and think that he does not have 100% say in who he brings in at DC. I think he had a relationship with Vic due to Brandon Staley being a disciple of his but that's 2nd degree and when things were not going that well in Miami McDaniel didn't come to Vic's defense. It's clear that Vic was not the problem there and they are worse off now that he's gone.
This does not mean HCs are always right. We seen even HOF coaches like Mike Tomlin be to loyal to his OC in Matt Canada as we all knew he sucked. We are currently seeing Doug Pederson being too loyal to Press Taylor and its hurting their team. Those situations though are rare.
With how cutthroat it is in today's NFL and how short of a lease HCs have it seems they are being forced to fire coords they don't wanna fire and are not allowed to hire who they want to hire. Makes sense business wise as the HC is not the one signing checks but I think there is no better evaluator of coaching talent than a coach who's placing their job status on hiring a good coord.
Thats just my observation as an outsider.
In Seattle, Macdonald had full control over selecting his staff. I think what you’re describing is mostly something that happens in dysfunctional organizations.I have not seen anyone comment on this and I could be totally wrong in this but I kinda feel like there has been a change of culture in the NFL in regards to HC's filling out their coaching staff. I feel like his should be one of the safest jobs in the league.Every time Baltimore loses, a bunch of the fan base calls for John Harbaugh's job.
Who the fuck are you going to replace him with?
John HarbaughI feel like his should be one of the safest jobs in the league.
I started making a list and that's as far as I got. I'm sure there are others that are safe, but those three could probably fuck the owner's wife and still have a job.John Harbaugh
Mike Tomlin
Andy Reid
Those are the essentially untouchable jobs.
There's even people trying to "start conversations" about Andy Reid. I don't know how people can be so dumb. Harbaugh is about as good as it gets.Every time Baltimore loses, a bunch of the fan base calls for John Harbaugh's job.

John got the better genetics of the brothers, at least long term genetics. Jim was obviously a better athlete it seems.Every time Baltimore loses, a bunch of the fan base calls for John Harbaugh's job.

There was a time where his game management was so bad it was a legit conversation as to whether his genius play calling and design was worth his bad game management. Those days are long gone though, he learned and has earned a super long leash. Would have to stack a bunch of losing seasons before he could be relieved of his duties, and he would just retire first. There's even people trying to "start conversations" about Andy Reid. Philly got to that point and moved on, they have done OK since though. Interesting decision on their part. There was a time where his game management was so bad it was a legit conversation as to whether his genius play calling and design was worth his bad game management. He blew a bunch of huge games in KC as well. He learned from those mistakes, plus it he has a Houdini type QB which covers up bad decisions and makes risky calls work more often than now.Philly got to that point and moved on, they have done OK since though. Interesting decision on their part.
Max Crosby was too white^they made mahomes way too black looking in that.
Sean Payton is not as good of a coach as those guys above but he is that next tier I think as he got a massive deal and I get the feeling the Waltons wanna stay out of the day to day somewhat.John Harbaugh

TBH rodgers would've been awesome coming off his tear if he was on a functional franchise.
