Long, loooong story short, my kid is too much like me;
She started a business venture in the Seattle area 7 years ago, and Seattle PD, Feds, border, and between 5-7 other agencies who weren't getting a cut decided to go in & get there's in a sting.
Thing is, they took all her stuff, IE guns, scales, cash, weed....people...and she was 15.
They interrogated her not in my presence after the sting.
I tried getting her property back then, they said "no way".

Now she's got her life' together & wants to be a lawyer.
On Dec. 28th she filed the interagency FOIA request, eg interview, bodycams, the whole shebang.
TWO DAYS later, a letter comes in the mail.
"We have property & cash for you, please come pick it up".

"Should I sue them dad?"
Hell no, and hell no to picking it up in person.
Hire an agent & have it done.
See what the regional political landscape is in 2-3 years of the new administration, build your case on the back end.
It wasn't a ton of cheddar, but enough where she can take the season off.

Somebody got scurred.

Weed, cash and guns at 15 for a business venture? Am I reading that right?

Interviewing her without a parent present is a big no no though.

Trump should make FOIA's mandatory for everyone to receive.

Then people will realize how little trust they should have in the security state.

Dad was no angel.
The tree doesn't fall far from the nut.

But anything "criminals" do is small potatoes when compared to most governments.
Ours is the largest criminal organization on this planet.
Citizens that have to scare agences into getting their property back by filling out FOIA requests is a prime example, 7 years after the fact.
