Designating cartels terrorist groups won't work without an actual invasion of Mexico and that might turn out like vietnam because mexicans are resilient AF and the geography of mexico might even be more brutal than vietnam. Unless the us plans to let bombers like b1b lancer loose Which would probably be a bad look bombing an ally country.

Well they've invaded countries for supporting even smaller groups of terrorists... So..
But I don't think they'd have to, Mexico will do it for them and USA will give them some support.
I don't even get the fentynal thing seems counter productive to kill your customers even if it saves them money they should cut the drugs with something less lethal.
I'm not against invading mexico im just pointing out just calling them a terrorist org is only the beginning it will take a far larger effort to get rid of cartels it will probably be a 20 year war with a lot of casualties.
It's hard.. You can get it done inside 1 year if you're willing to do extrajudicial killings but they're not.

This story just hit today:
Multi-agency investigation results in ammunition seizure
In mid-January of 2025, the Cochise County Counter Narcotics and Trafficking Alliance (CNTA) assisted Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Burau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) with an investigation leading to the seizure of 10,000 rounds of .50 caliber ammunition and 19,640 rounds of 7.62x39 ammunition.
The .50 caliber and 7.62x39 rounds were separated within two vehicles traveling east on Interstate 10 from the Phoenix area. The vehicle containing the 7.62x39 ammunition was interdicted by the Pinal County Sheriff’s office. Still, the second vehicle containing the .50 caliber ammunition was located by CNTA investigators at Motel 6 in Benson.
CNTA, HSI, and USBP contacted the vehicle's two occupants at the motel. One of the occupants was found to be an asylum seeker out of Cuba and the second individual was identified as a U.S. citizen out of Texas. The second vehicle was occupied by two asylum seekers.
This investigation is ongoing and led by HSI and ATF.
We just need to push the border about 50 miles back into Mexico and declare it a no go zone. Patrol the shit out of it and light up anything that moves. A modern DMZ.
