A lot of rules have fallen hard lately in CFB. I'd be real interested to see how that would work these days.

Difference here is that the NFL and the players agreed to that as part of the CBA. It isn't an NCAA restriction

But it could be easily changed if agreed upon at the next CBA

Good pass protector and multi talented back seems to be a bit like an Alvin Kamara.

Hard to make exceptions, it'd probably fail more often than not. The NBA did the same thing with drafting kids out of HS. Dozen failures for one Kobe. Probably one guy every 5-7 years? Now with nil it stings less to stay in college
