No. After the first world war the middle east was purposely divided into the territories where the allied nations would be able to manage their new found dependency on oil by supporting whichever faction they needed to. They intentionally drew borders to make sure that warring groups would be forced to share a country.

That revelation was spearheaded by jews and ive heard on multiple occasions the safest place to be if you were a jew in WW2 was in the Russian army.
It's my understanding that the executions and people sent to the gulags were due to overthrowing the old class structure and anyone that was even slightly sympathetic to the old ways. Then they just started killing people at the drop of a hat because they couldn't feed them.
