I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why these fucks have official taxpayer funded residences.
How does the housing situation work for US politicians and high ranking public service members? I'm not sure how it works for public service workers in Australia, but politicians who are based outside of our capital, Canberra (essentially all of the politicians) are allowed to buy a home in Canberra, stay there when parliament sits and claim $310 for every night they stay there.
So the average politician will stay in Canberra for 100 days of the year - at a minimum. At $310 a night, $32,550 of taxpayer money goes to paying off their fucking mortgage. The allowance was originally based in the premise that politicians would stay in hotels etc when in Canberra, but the laws allow to stay in any property so they all now buy houses and stay there instead. Makes my blood fucking boil.
