King Green suffered a brutal loss to Mauricio Ruffy at UFC 313, finding himself on the receiving end of a highlight-reel spinning wheel kick knockout, but he’s not done with the sport just yet.
A veteran of 51 professional MMA bouts, 27 of those under the UFC banner, Green looked to get back in the win column following a first-round submission defeat to Paddy Pimblett in July 2024. Unfortunately for the 38-year-old, he lost even quicker this time.
“This is the game we play,” Green said on a video posted to his Instagram Stories [h/t Verdict MMA]. “There’s wins, there’s losses. This is how it goes, you know? Shout out to Ruffy. You did your thing, brother. I’d like to see you have success in your future. Obrigado. And shout out to everybody that rides with me and came through this whole thing, man. I love all you guys.”
Green had good momentum between April 2023 and April 2024, finishing Tony Ferguson and Grant Dawson, along with a decision win over Jim Miller, and a defeat to Jalin Turner in between.
Now, he’s only won three of his past nine fights.
“I thank you so much for supporting me through all this bullshit, but we’re not done,” Green said. “I just need some more time to get myself back used to being in the cage. We’ll be back, I promise you that.”
