PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A woman was arrested over the weekend after she reportedly bit her 11-year-old son.
Heidi Lynn Boyum, 30, was charged with 4th degree assault and first degree criminal mistreatment.
The investigation began after police responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex on southeast 148th Avenue, according to court documents.
The suspect’s boyfriend and victim’s father, Derek Conant told police Boyum was intoxicated inside the apartment.
Another person living in the apartment told police that Boyum and Conant were arguing at the time, and the child tried to intervene when she bit him, according to court documents.
Police said the boy had several small cuts and bruises on his chest, neck and left side of his face near his eye.
According to court documents, Boyum said she got into a fight with her son because he was being defiant. There was pushing and shoving involved, and Boyum argued her actions were in self-defense.
She later stated “My only defense was to bite him,” according to police.
The child was taken by another family member to a local hospital for treatment.
