Yeah, I still have it, its the OG model. It has been in its holster for probably 8-9 years at this point.

Hear a lot of bad things about Sig. Never even held one.
If Ruger makes the caliber I want I usually check them first. Glocks are nice. Taurus are nice. Never liked Smith and Wesson. I've liked a few Springfield's.

I'm scanning through some reviews and what not. For whatever that's worth. Seems like you'd have a tough time buying a bad one.
I'll probably just keep my eyes peeled for a good deal. Not real sure I'm going to be super model specific. I'll keep learning and maybe you guys can give me your opinions. If I see one at some point and it's the right deal, then it's the right time.

What's your budget and what caliber? If a 1911 is what you're after and you like Ruger, they happen to make a modestly priced good one. The SR1911. Ive rented it twice and been really happy with it. Once for sure in 9mm and I want to say the second time was in .45. it's super accurate, easy to shoot, i believe it punches above its weight.
IMHO it isn't really worth buying high end striker fire pistols. Glock, S&W, Springfield, etc. are all in the same price point and work reliably. I've had my G19 for over 15 years, and it has never misfired for me. It shoots where I aim it. I don't see how to improve on that. The purpose of my pistols are to protect my life should need be, and I'm confident in my Glocks in doing so.
I like HKs, but unless it is a splurge purchase / safe queen, I don't think I think ever buy one since my current pistols get the job done that I want out of a pistol. I'm interested in revolvers and will likely get one at some point, but again, it'll be a safe queen taken out for occasional target shooting. Don't get me wrong, I see nothing wrong with owning guns that don't have a particular utility. I like guns and simply think some of them are cool which is enough reason to own them in my mind.
My G19 cost just under $500 when I bought it. I've put a red dot on it. I have maybe $750 into it not counting spare mags. I trust my life to that and did prior to the red dot.

I keep "emergency" cash in the house, and unfortunately the only emergencies that seem to come up are "needing" this gun or that gun. I think I need an advisor like you.
I'm assuming you're asking about different Ruger sr1911?
I can't give you an detailed breakdown of the differences between the Ruger offerings because I'm not all that into them. That's not to say I'm not a Ruger fan, I just haven't looked into them with a microscope. I could probably tell you differences between different Springfield models because I own a couple And I frequent their website more.
I can tell you that generally speaking, 1911s come in 3 sizes. That more or less means barrel length. They're all single stack and are mostly known for coming in .45. they're also know for their crisp trigger breaks over (squishy) striker fired polymer framed guns.
The 3 sizes are
government which is full size and 5" barrel length
Commander which is more compact with a 4.25" barrel length
Officer which is 3.5" barrel length.
Keep in mind the larger guns are heavier and the weight absorbs the recoil. They are also more accurate with the longer barrel.
As far as options within the sizes on the Ruger website, itd be purely a guess but probably different options like skeletonized hammer or not, grips, iron sights, etc. little things that add up. The one I shot was like $600 at the range. A totally fair price I'd say.
