phewf...was worried you didn't make it out of the woods. glad your'e home safe. :)

and super lol that you brought home mushrooms..is your wife like wtf??
Haha, my curiosity got the better of me and I'm going to try to identify them.

Wife is still at work, but I don't even want to have that conversation so I put them in the garage lol.

I'm pretty darn tired. Came home and took my son out to lunch. Now I have to take him to work in a few and I'm probably gonna crash early.

Ok, it's not easy picking mushrooms with 30 lbs of gear on your back while keeping an eye out for black bears.

i dunno chief...the magicy ones from the gulf coast side of the state ...don't really look like that..and a bit more golden not so reddish brown..and whiterish on the stems. maybe it's just the lighting at your house...i'm not expert though...as i've never ever hunted them down.

I'm not expecting them to be magic really, but I do want to identify them so I'm googling.

yeah...i think it's cool to figure out what they are so you can know if they're edible...or if you need to steer clear of them.
when i was a kid...public schools sent us to nature's classroom for a week. it was out in the woods and they schooled us on how to identify poisonous plants..and things you could eat...and how to start a fire without matches.

gonna start calling you chief gryrlls...adventuring survivor man.

That's cool. Wish I'd have learned more while I was younger. The only thing I remember from boy scouts was making pistachio ice cream and we whittled a ball in a cage from a block of wood. Skills for life!

It has been brought to my attention that to "host" someone means to buy them dinner. Ya learn something new every day. As such my calling Q @Qat, a bitch was entirely unfounded and inappropriate, he is in fact a tenacious nuisance:).

Anyway you're not a bitch, I over reacted I apologise.

Chief @Chief Was the night as good as you hoped? What did you do for breakfast?
I had a great time thanks for asking. I dreamt that a bear was outside of my tent and I shot it once then the gun jammed. It scared me awake, but I could open my eyes or move for a few seconds because I was still in sleep paralysis. Heart was pounding.

I was plenty of tracks, deer, hogs racoon, and something large and scary. Could have been a bear or panther, not sure. I found all the ticks before they attached to me.

Breakfast was coffee, beef jerky and a granola bar. I started the fire quicker this morning than yesterday!

I'm pretty sore. I'd say I covered almost 10 miles in 2 days.

This is the view from my tent when I woke up to get a fire going.

Chief @Chief do the shrooms have blueish bruises like this on em?

They don't bruise at all. I'm not having any luck identifying them yet, but I haven't given it my full effort yet.

On a side note, I have a toxic reaction to shiitake mushrooms. They make it look like someone whipped the shit out of me. It's called shiitake dermatitis.

This happens to my back and chest when I eat them.

Hey Chief you should wear sunglasses on the back of your head, then the panthers will think you're looking at them and they wont ambush you mostly.

And buy a shotgun and some slugs, safety first and all that.

Last two pictures here.

This is where I had to put my food and trash to keep the wildlife away. They call it a bear bag. Hang it away from your tent.

And this is my favorite area I stumbled on.

Isn't there an indigenous tribe who wear a mask on the back of their heads for that reason?

I have a toque with fake eyes stitched on the back of it just for that very reason. it has worked so far lol.
