I think its only when measuring someone's height or weight. For everything else, it's metric.

Nah, quite the contrary. We did use imperial until our Great Social Engineer Pierre Elliott Trudeau, la Grande Fromage himself, decreed that we should henceforth use the metric system. The US tried to institute the same change but the American people told their government to get fucked.

So now we no longer use a similar system to that of our overwhelmingly largest trading partner. Makes sense eh!

They did bully us into not legalizing marijuana though, using border trade access as the persuading stick. Worked like a charm too.

It's only used to measure height and weight in pro sports because of American influence. Height and weight is normally measured with the metric system up here too.

Except by grumpy old codgers like me that is; I'll never adopt it.

Oh, and fuck you Pierre!

Feet and inches are used in construction as well as height and weight

Hardly anyon in the UK uses metric to weigh themselves. Unless they compete in a weight specific sport.

A lot of this, in Canada the official form of measurement is metric, but most people use feet and pounds for just about everything. It isn't an issue of American insisting we use it, or some form of the citizens sticking it to the government. They co-exist and no one pays it too much attention.

Not at all man, they share borders with the 3rd most populated nation on earth is all that has to have some influence.

If and when China and India become fully developed I reckon they will have some pull regardless of proximity to them. Just to kinda contradict myself and be more myopic (Hoping he meant succinct)

I just want to use someone else's work to show you how stupid the imperial system is.

I used this graphic a few weeks back, this shit just doesn't make sense, this is what happend then:

uhhhhh what?!?, how many toe's, toenails and hobbit feet do i combine to get that in the metric system.

So i'm 180cm tall, 1meter and 80 cm spot on.
Look what happend when i tried looking up what that translates to in MERICUN!!!

5 point 9 feet but since there are 12 inches in a foot, it's not 5'9

so 5'10 4/5 basically 5 feet, 10 and 4/5 inches
or just 5'11 if u round it WTF?

Look at when the change to metric took place. The generation that raised the one born in the metric system hadn't accepted these new measurements. So, while what was officially taught was metric, what was unofficially practiced was imperial. Basically anyone in their late 40's and older, still has a tendency to use imperial.

I'm in my early 30's and I can honestly say I've never met a single Canadian who didn't respond in feet and pounds when they were asked how tall they were or what they weighed. In all honestly are there any countries that have completely switched over to metric? I really can't think of any.

Same for the UK. Except it is stones and pounds for weight.
