Despite his 7-0 record as a professional mixed martial artist, UFC bantamweight Cody Garbrandt knows he can reach another level inside the cage.

Ahead of his Feb. 21 UFC Fight Night 82 showdown against John Lineker (26-7) in Pittsburgh, the 24-year-old "No Love" will cross-train at high altitude in Albuquerque alongside noted coaches Brandon "Six Gun" Gibson, Mike Winkeljohn and Greg Jackson.

"I’m going to go out there in January, probably do a few weeks there, come back here [Sacramento] for a few weeks, then go back again for a few weeks, go back and forth," Garbrandt told MMAFighting.com. "I really like Brandon 'Six Gun' [Gibson]. His technique, his motivation, and his training...I believe in him, and he believes in me."

When the cage door closes and the lights go down inside the Consol Energy Center, Garbrandt see Lineker's brawl-first tendencies as the beginning of the end for the Brazilian.

"There’s nothing better to challenge yourself against than a heavy-handed striker like John Lineker. But, I mean, he’s a brawler. That’s it. He’s a brawler," Garbrandt said. "He gets sucked into those brawls. Anybody can take you out in a brawl, obviously. It’s a four-ounce glove, so that can happen. I’m going to make this guy miss so many times, he’ll look like a godd--n fool in there.

"When I knock him out – when I finish John Lineker – people are going to know I’m legit. In that fight, I get the opportunity to prove the hype is real, and that’s what I’m going to do on Feb. 21...It’s going to be a bad day to fight me, I know that."

Cody should avoid swanging and banging as that is just not a good plan......if he's using Jackson and co. They will help him with a gameplan.....

I think Cody will move to JacksonWinklejohn full time soon. Not having a striking coach, or real head coach, is hurting Team Alpha Male. MMA is a selfish sport and you've got to do what is best for you, and no amount of brotherhood or friendship will make up for bad/missing training.

Agree, it is great to have a lot of little wrestlers to scramble with and get good at a choke to push you to learn how to survive, however when you do not have a real coach to organize and push your training to obtain maximum results I believe you stagnate.

Yep. I would love to know more about the inner workings of that gym. You can tell by listening to Ludwig, that he's a control freak with no filter and a quick temper...so I can imagine why that didn't work out. But I also dont know exactly how easy Urijah is to work with. He owns the gym, and has been sort of a pseudo-coach to these guys for years. So I wonder how easy it is for him to give control to, and answer to, someone else.

I agree there were clashes, but they have failed to replace Martin Kampman, and there are questions to be made as to whether Martin was ready to be head coach of a top MMA gym. He was obviously a very good fighter and credentialed striker, but, personally, the striking and results of TAM have stagnated or got worse, respectively, since he took over and, subsequently, since he left. Whether that was because he wasn't there for long enough to produce results, which is certainly possible, is another question. I think only TAM fighters can really speak to that, but the telling fact is fighters are now looking outside for training.

Urijah is a good fighter, but he has a lot of things going on, what with his business' and his own career, he cannot be the full time coach for these guys anyway. There is also the question of knowledge, I don't believe Urijah has the depth of striking knowledge to be a striking coach on the level of some of these other top guys. At least his striking deficiencies in the cage point in that direction. He is an excellent wrestler and that shows through in all the guys at his gym, but that is no longer enough to win titles.

Liniker will tune him up if he makes weight and this fight happens. TAM is on a serious slide right now.
