Matt Brown: Jose Aldo '110 percent' deserves rematch

Not many have called for an immediate rematch of Conor McGregor vs. Jose Aldo. "The Notorious" KO'd Aldo with a perfectly executed counter to seize the official interim featherweight championship at UFC 194.

Jon Jones, however, was one of the fighters calling for a rematch in light of Ronda Rousey's beatdown at the hands of Holly Holm at UFC 193. "Rowdy" is expected to fight Holm again at UFC 200 with a chance to reclaim her bantamweight title, as Dana Whiterecently snuffed the idea of Holm vs. Miesha Tate to the Los Angeles Times.

And, according to referee Big John McCarthy, McGregor offered Aldo a rematch during his post-fight celebration.

Now, welterweight grinder Matt Brown has also expressed his interest in seeing Jose Aldo lock horns with McGregor again.

"I think Aldo should fight Conor. Yeah, I think so 110 percent," Matt Brown said on the latest Great MMA Debate podcast. "I think Aldo has done everything to deserve whatever he wants at this point in his career. That son of a b--ch has been a champion for however many years, undefeated for 10 years, he's been an honorable soldier for the UFC. Maybe he's not the most marketable guy so that's the reason he's not getting it, but he just f---ing deserves it."

I'm on board with it. Aldo really does deserve it because of his reign as champ, but that said, there are a lot of fights that can be made w/ McGregor...so it's going to boil down to which one is the most marketable. IMO, I think a rematch with Aldo at UFC200 would do killer numbers...more than McGregor/Edgar. But unfortunately, I think McGregor will fight either Frankie or Nate Diaz next.

Two clean KOs in less than a year would be nothing short of life altering and almost career ending for Aldo.

The smart move is to give him a less dangerous opponent to build him back up and prove that he is still Champion material.

Conor has elevated himself and the game to new heights unknown, it would be wise for Aldo to prepare properly.

I can't disagree with this sentiment. If for nothing else but to get Aldo back in the winning column before he meets Conor again. He needs some positivity coming into that fight or it may be emotional again.

You make a good point CRE. And maybe you're right. I hope that's the UFC's thinking, if they dont make a rematch.

The only thing that I dont understand about this logic though. is why make an immediate rematch for Holm/Rousey then? I think Ronda should take a tune up fight and get some confidence back as well.

Well, that's where the UFC filter come into play and logic and reason aren't necessarily part of that filter. I don't think Ronda deserves or should even accept a rematch at this point. I keep thinking that Ronda want's one last big pay day from fighting and calls it quits. Uncle Dana will of course oblige but the narrative coming from the UFC will be that of a potential redemption and a come back.

The Diaz fight does absolutely zero for Conor's career and it puts the title on hold. Aldo isn't getting a rematch because the ufc simply doesn't like him. He expressed frustration with his contract and the reebok deal. Once he broke his rib dana and the ufc started telling lies about the injury until they received the cease and desist letter from aldo's attorney. The ufc wants their fighters to push the ufc agenda, and Aldo won't be a puppet, therefore no rematch.

Yep. And not only is he not a cash cow, he spoke out about the Reebok debacle, fighter pay, and backing a fighters union.

Sure he deserves a rematch, if long time champions get rematches and it appears for the most part the they do in the UFC. The problem arises when there is more interest in seeing another fight happen and that fight is Conor/Edgar.

After Cowboy lost to RDA. Diaz v Conor is the biggest possible money fight Conor, and in turn Zuffa, have on the horizon.

While Aldo does not ingratiate himself to the ufc I believe it has more to do with not wanting to invest more money into a fight that would need to be rescheduled. We have had the same fight in the hopper for way too long. Aldo should go whoop somebody's butt then come back with a hype train that would sell.
From a pure sporting aspect though a rematch would be warranted.

I wouldn't mind seeing Aldo move up to 155, think itll be better for him and the devision.

Give him Nate Diaz, he'll cripple his legs over 3 rounds then give him the winner of RDA/McG or Alverez/Ferguson or better still give him Pettis; winner gets another run.
