Marvel and DC have been putting out maybe 3-5 awesome books lately and a whole lot of crap. Recently I chanced on a couple decent ones that I wanted to recommend.

Captain America and the Mighty Avengers

This series is surprisingly good and features a decent team consisting of Falcon/Cap, Luke Cage, Spectrum (Monica Rambeau, formerly Captain Marvel/Photon), Spider-Man, Power Man, White Tiger, Blue Marvel, She Hulk and Kaluu (a black magic sorcerer). The characters interacted pretty well and had a decent storyline despite being caught up in both Axis and Secret War as a momentum sapper. In case you wondered where this Benetton ad Avengers team came bursting from in "Time Runs Out," this was the series that spawned them.

Writing by Al Ewing and art by Luke Ross.

Young Avengers

This is the other series that recently made me take some notice. Featuring a few members from the original Young Avengers team, this squad consists of Hulkling (Half Kree/Half Skrull), Wiccan (son of Vision/Scarlet Witch), Hawkeye (the other one who hangs out with Hawkguy), Kid Loki, Marvel Boy/Protector, Speed (former Young Avenger and Quicksilver knock-off), Prodigy (depowered mutant) and Miss America.

Written by Kieron Gillen with art by Jamie McElvie.

Both books worth taking a shot at, particularly if you liked Avengers Academy, Thunderbolts, NEXTWave, The Order, Runaways, New Warriors or Teen Titans. Very much in the same mold as those books.

I've been enjoying Black Canary and Dr Fate from the DCyou launch. I've heard good things about omega men though it's become a mini series and midnighter as well.

Just read Squadron Supreme issues 1 and 2 from Marvel after a recommendation and really enjoyed it. Almost like a justice league elseworld story from James Robinson and Leonard Kirk.

Did you read the original by Gruenwald or the more recent one by JMS? They're both really good. If you have read them, which is this series more like? Is this the same Hyperion from Avengers or is this another continuity (post-Secret War)?

Sorry for the deluge of questions, but I'm a big SS fan and I generally like James Robinson.

This is actually my first time with SS. It's post secret wars and its my understanding that it's a mash up of the team members from different earths (does that make sense?).
If you like James Robinson, have you read Airboy from image?

Also, no need to apologize. I love comics so I have no problem answering questions about any books I'm reading.

Hey I gave this a read this morning on your recommendation and it was very good. Definitely in keeping with every iteration of SS. You should definitely read the other 2 series. They're great.

Haven't read Airboy, but I know Robinson from Starman which was his greatest work and one of the defining comics of the late 90s/early 2000s.

The dialogue with Namor indicates that it's Hyperion from pre-Secret Wars Avengers, which makes his conduct highly questionable.

I never got too far into Hickman's Avengers so I don't know about Hyperion acting unlike himself but it's my understanding that secret wars changed everything.

I think it's Hyperion from an earth similar to earth 616, but not that Hyperion. The number of that earth was 13034.

Avengers Hyperion was not from 616. He was the sole survivor when his universe was destroyed.

Yes I know, but when they showed the flashback of him on the world with the Avengers, they identified it as Earth 13034.
