A sensational and bloody fight against Robbie Lawler may prompt Carlos Condit to retire from MMA.
Following Condit’s (30-9 MMA, 7-5 UFC) split-call loss to Lawler (27-10 MMA, 12-4 UFC) in a “Fight of the Year” candidate at UFC 195, UFC President Dana White revealed a conversation in which the former UFC interim welterweight champion said he could hang up his gloves.
Condit then appeared at the pay-per-view event’s press conference and confirmed he is weighing retirement, though he stopped short of making the decision on the spot.
Although gracious in a split-call defeat, Condit said he’d been contemplating walking away prior to the headliner.
“It’s not really an emotional thing,” he told MMAjunkie. “I’m not dejected. I don’t know. I have to evaluate, but there’s a possibility it might be my last one. We’ll see.”
“I’ve been at this for a long time, over 40 professional MMA and kickboxing fights,” he said. “I don’t know. I came up short tonight. I don’t know. Tonight was kind of a do-or-die moment for my career, I feel like, and I was all in. If I got that strap, I was going to keep fighting. If I didn’t, like I didn’t, I have to see if I can continue to do this.”
