On Dec. 11, former UFC lightweight champion made an emphatic move to challenge for the featherweight title by knocking out fellow contender Chad Mendes. He was promised he was next by the UFC brass afterwards, which put a smile on his face.

The next night, just a couple of casinos down from the Cosmopolitan where the 34-year old Edgar struck his claim, Conor McGregor knocked out longtime 145-pound championJose Aldo to marry the titles. He needed only 13 seconds to divest a legend 10 years at the MGM Grand. And when Edgar, the definitive next challenger for McGregor, was summonsed to enter the cage post-fight at UFC 194, his dream scenario vanished before his eyes.

Edgar’s manager Ali Abdel-Aziz and one of UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta’s assistants came to fetch him to enter the Octagon, but he was stopped in his tracks before he could enter.

"I thought they wanted me to go in the cage," Edgar said during an appearance on The MMA Hour on Monday. "And then as I’m about to walk in Dana [White] was walking out, he said, ‘you’re not going in there, Conor’s going up, blah blah blah, we might give Aldo a rematch, we don’t know.’ I just kind of…I’ve never been, I mean granted Conor put himself in a position to be in charge, but I’ve never been there. Usually I do what they ask me."

In the UFC 194 aftermath it was revealed that McGregor may be moving up to 155 pounds to challenge the winner of Donald Cerrone and Rafael dos Anjos, which took place a week later in Orlando. McGregor said what he wanted to do was to hold simultaneous titles at 145 and 155, an ambition that the UFC has traditionally not catered to.

Yet what it meant for Edgar was that a promise was being reneged upon, and a few weeks later "The Answer" said he’s still "pissed" over how things are playing out. Once again he suspects he’s going to be looked over for a title shot.

"For sure, I’m pissed," he told Ariel Helwani. "I’ve been at it for a while now, I’ve been knocking on the door for this title shot for a while. It started with Cub [Swanson]. If Cub beat me he was promised a title shot. I beat him, I finished him in pretty dominating fashion and no, I’m not even considered for that title shot. I take it in stride. I do everything in stride, I really do think I’m a company man, but it’s not really panning out for me being that way."

Asked if he was losing patience with being told one thing only to watch something else happen, he said he’s long past that.

"I’m there — I’m there already," he said. "I’m not one to sit there and cry about it. People, my whole career say, ‘you’re too quiet, you need to say stuff,’ and the minute you say something it’s, ‘you’re f*cking crying.’ I mean come on, you just can’t win with these people. And you really can’t pay attention to them. The people I need to talk to are Dana and Lorenzo, and they seem like they’re not listening either."

It's pretty telling that Conor has kept Frankie out of his mouth (no homo). He's never shit talked him at all but went after everyone else even Cowboy.

Beginning to the think neither Conor, or the UFC, wants this match-up.

I'm a fan of Conor but this two belts at once shit is ridiculous. Defend it against Frankie or vacate and move up so guys aren't log jamming for a shot.

All these promised fights need to stop, make a system where merit means more.

I want Frankie to get the title shot, but we all know a Champion vs. Champion fight is where the biggest money would be. Yeah its not fair to Frankie, yeah Zuffa is interested in the biggest money fights, but nonetheless, #wouldwatch

Lesson learned for all younger fighters out there- in the UFC, it pays better to be an asshole than it does to be a company guy.

this fight needs to go down damn it!

they can have the Aldo rematch later unless they think, Frankie will win and then that kills the Aldo / McGregor rematch.

They want RDA/Conor. Thats the $$$ fight at the moment. If they match Conor up with Frankie, and Frankie wins...it's all over. No champ vs champ fight, no McGregor/Aldo rematch for the belt. Frankie winning is their worst nightmare.

I hope RDA or who ever Conor faces gets payed big for dealing with the UFC/Conor show. If not for big money, it is a loss/loss for RDA. If RDA wins, then he beat someone in a lower weight class. If RDA losses, then he is where everyone else is, waiting on the UFC and Conor to decide what happens next. Good on Conor for making himself the guy everyone wants to fight, he has not even defended a title yet. Frankie maybe 3 or more fights away for Conor if he does move around weight classes.

I think Nate is a bigger money fight. RDA isn't exactly a wizard with a microphone.

I do too, and maybe (hopefully) they make that fight...but it sure seems like they're trying to do the RDA one for some reason.
I think the UFC believes that Champ vs Champ is the biggest money fight. Fans, serious and casual, know that Nate vs. Conor has a much higher entertainment value. Truth be told, I don't think there's any value in RDA v. Conor, but if there's one thing Zuffa has taught us, it's that they'll go through with their decisions whether we want them to or not.

If Edgar wants a shot at the belt he might aswell drop to 135 because they have fucked him around long enough at 145.

Nah, he should stick around because if McGregor beats RDA, then the UFC will match Edgar against Holloway for the vacant strap. Aldo gets the winner, most likely. If McGregor loses, then the UFC is momentarily back in the driver's seat, and would likely force him to immediately (early summer) defend the belt or vacate it and stay at 155 where he would then face either Diaz or Cerrone.

Conor's people don't think he can make 145 again healthfully. Conor has never had a bad word to say about Edgar. He wants nothing to do with this fight, the UFC doesn't want to risk their golden boy against a guy who's a terrible stylistic matchup...and the fight would only be one sided hype.

Aldo 2, RDA title angle, Nate for the lols are all higher reward, lower risk fights.

GSP recently said that he has no idea how Conor makes 145, that he's a big strong dude.

This FW thing is over. Conor has grown into a LW and eventually will move to WW after the wrestlers age out.

I'm sorry, but welterweight is punching way above his weight.......I'd like to see it though.
