There was a job posting up in Nunavut that was right up my alley, so I wiki'd it and read that it's so cold plant life doesn't grow up there and I was like HELL TO THE NAH

Was it shift work or would you be living there? Nunavut isn't a placed I'd commit to staying.

Living there, believe it or not they have a CBC station up there. This was a year or so ago, never bothered to apply. A guy I work with ended up doing a 2 month stint there. Said it was interesting but could never imagine living there. Grocery prices off the charts. Polar bears wandering around your house.

Holy shit! I bet the neighbours would be suspect too....

I had a tiny rental suite in Ft Mac for a while when I did a job outside of the camp environment. $1300 a month for about 400 sq ft in a basement.

Sophia, where do you currently live and why would you want to go to the South Pole?
DFW Area in Texas, from Connecticut, they had an IT position at the research station down there and figured why not see if I can get it.

Whatever dude, I stood outside on the street corner in a thong all day. You probably have layers of thermal gear and insulated, fire retardant PPE. Your job is easy. Try getting turned out in an alley behind the Mexican restaurant by a dumpster full of chorizo while the prairie wind whips and the snow blows.

Plus the shift is gold, 2 weeks on then 2 weeks off. Without this gig my RV trip would've never been possible.
It's true guys, while he is working in an inhospitable and fairly isolated region, he is making a great living and has a schedule that allows him a lot of freedom in many ways. Do they fly you in and out? Have you there been a lot of jobs lost where you are working or is it riding out the oil drop decently?

Yes they fly me to and from site and take care of all my lodging and meals.

Work is very slim up here at the moment but I'm not in the construction side of things, I'm in the commissioning side of things so we're good for a bit. You live in Alberta?
