That made me laugh....I grew up in a black community. What the hell am I talking about, you'll KNOW where I grew up. I grew up in Dellwood, the one the whole world saw get burned up in the Ferguson riots. The gas station that got torched once sold my Dad some bad gas. The liqueur store that kept getting robbed used to be a 7-11 that I got slurpees at when I was a teenager. I went to Riverview Gardens and we didn't have swimming pools....we had state champion basketball and football teams.

I seriously fascinated by this, not taking a shot at you. My dad learned in his late teens and his brother who's now in his late 60s still can't, I find it so strange. Is there a fear issue that creates panic or you just can't get the hang of it?
As a kid it was simple, I didn't have a swimming pool, no one I knew had a swimming pool....we had basketball hoops. My school didn't have a pool either so it was never required to learn. When I got older it became a control thing as as the act of my feet leaving the ground and my face being underwater just wasn't something that I felt OK to do. I don't freak out...but I'm just not doing it.
I can get to the top of water and I put that to the test when I went to a water park and went down a long slide and in to a 10-12 foot deep pool of water; hit the water head first; got myself turned right side up; got to the top of the water and grabbed the life preserver that was waiting. The life guards knew I couldn't swim and had it ready. So I can survive in water (at least a little while), but have I ever "swam", no.

I swim enough to save my life and will be happy if I never have to swim again. I been saved twice by lifeguards. Drowning sucks ass. Fuck the sea and anything in it.

(No I'm not black, I just have a massive hog)

Swimming for me is not a natural excersize and exerts a lot of energy in the same way as sprinting, my body just wants to sink.

And I have swimmers ear to boot. So swimming can (and has) caused me major hearing infections in the past.

Fuck swimming

Worst PT I've ever done was swimming exercises in the marines. Had to have 4 guys in the platoon on life-guard duty. Every fucking time someone would drown. It sucked big time.

It blows my mind when full-grown adults tell me they don't know how to swim. I always want to ask if they're autistic, but I don't want to be rude.

Very common actually. Since I am from a privileged background of the highest class we learned to swim early. The peasants don't have pools and the catfish are big and hungry.

You don't want to get punched in the face. That's why you don't say it. Don't act you ever have a moment where you aren't rude.

It's like if an adult told me they don't know how to ride a bike.

Would seem like there's some sort of developmental disorder of some kind.

I live in Florida. If you don't know how to swim in Florida your chances of making it into adulthood are very low.

Besides the beach and random lakes, there are canals everywhere, and half your friends have pools, so more likely than not you're eventually gonna be in a situation where knowing how to swim saves your life.

It just seems so natural to me because I started learning as a toddler.

And I'm not from a rich family or anything. I just have responsible parents I guess.

I disagree (I learned how drive in a manual car and can drive them) paddles are catching up/ overtaking. Most supercars are now paddle only. Nissan gtr paddle only. Jaguars paddle only.

I was looking at leasing a (2015 I think) Porsche cayman and had the brochure. The auto is faster than the manual. Porsche facts.

While I relate to your statement and agree driving stick is fun, I don't think if I got a Nissan GTR I should hand over my license.

Because I want a GTR

Sometimes you just gotta remember to not feed the trolls. Some people are just assholes and looking for attention. I guess they didn't get enough from their "responsible parents".

First bitch blocked.

You should come to the states. Nearly all cars on the road are automatic transmission.

I was just taking the piss because most chicks don't know how to drive a stick here, but it's sort of a measure of a man's masculinity if he knows how to drive one.

I know, we crazy

I am in the states. I got relegated from having no choice to drive manual to having to actively seek a stick shift when I got here. It's been a while since I drove stick too. I made sure my gf got a stickshift car (taught her how to drive it too) so if I feel like going back I can practice in hers for a bit to warm up

Although I am shit at driving stick. I stalled a g37s at a light on a test drive and then got honked at and had to hold in my rage one time (I have a road rage problem, for real, so when I fuck up traffic I don't know what to do)

Yeah I sold my car about 2 years ago and haven't actively driven a stick since, save for a work truck I had to drive once and the occasional friend's car.

I imagine I'd be kinda rusty at first but because I learned how to drive on a stick shift I'd get back into it in no time.

Never did learn how to ride a crotch rocket though...

Nah me either. Couple guys at work have really nice bikes but my only experience is when I fell off one aged under 10 when someone let me ride bitch on a field

Fuck I know I'd stall like a motherfucker if I had to regularly drive a stick.

You know what I still do though, even when I'm driving my current automatic trans car? I always put the e-brake on when I park. Old habits die hard I guess
