Whats a grunt? also did you see any front line action over there?

What was the food like?

Any funny stories?
A grunt is infantry.
Yes as artillery we got to do a ton of non artillery shit. My first tour I was based out of fallujah in 05-06. We filled a few different roles. We shot artillery in fallujah and around the Al Anbar province, mainly on camp fallujah but we would take a few guns and go shoot for recon ops in other areas. We also were EOD (the bomb squad) security. We'd be outside the wire for over 24 hrs at a time only stopping to fill up with fuel. So with that we were going to the IED's. I've taken direct and indirect fire. Been blown up, by thankfully small IED's and driven over others that didn't blow up....that was always a good time. We'd also have to secure the area around IED's or weapons caches we had to blow in place. That included clearing houses and other buildings. We also did security at one of the main fob's in downtown fallujah. We mainly stood post around the compound where we took direct and indirect fire. Car bombs, snipers, suicide bombers, nodded out Iraqi military... And some of the best fucking food I've ever eaten from the market out there. One Iraqi got shot standing in line getting us food. We still got our food........and we ate it. We did a lot of ridiculous shit that deployment. Swimming in the Euphrates in the winter. Fights that knocked down tons of artillery rounds. We'd hit used lithium batteries with golf clubs at the other guns and they'd explode on their way over. We'd build these huts by the guns that'd always get blown to shit when we shot high charges. And eventually got so desensitized that we had 2 Chinese 120mm rockets land like 1 meter from our fortified hut thing and we didn't even stop playing cards.
The second tour we were attached to an infantry battalion and I never touched a howitzer. We did patrols, raids, stood post, functioned as an additional infantry company. I got to fish in Lake thar thar which was cool. It was s miserable though. Middle of the summer, in the middle of the desert, living in tents. My platoon mainly went out at night so we'd fuck off and play illum basketball where me and my buddy would call fire missions while on patrol and we'd try to get the canister or the round to land into the canals that were all over the place.
We were on ship that deployment so we also went to Hawaii, Guam, Singapore, Kuwait, Iraq, Dubai, Australia as well. Lotttttts of alcohol was drank, and lots of trouble caused.
The food in California wasn't bad, wasn't great either. On ship it was pretty good. And on the big bases in Iraq it was fucking awesome. Not so much when ur off them though.

I have no fucking clue what it was. We were guarding this damn off Lake thar thar and we'd bullshit with the Iraqis that worked there. And we watched them fish using sticks, a string and a hook and they'd just drop it in and pull it up and catch this real good sized fish. Then they'd grill them on a small fire and eat them with vegetable and the bread stuff they have, almost like a pita. And so the next day my buddy and I said we wanted to stand post during that time at the dam and we ended up fishing and eatting with them for a few days straight. We also bought chickens, eggs, goat cheese, vegetables, and bread off them and made a grill. We got in trouble for that.

Just looked up what a carp is. That looks like what they were. They were good sized fish.

Haha its a delicacy over there, we pull huge ones out of my local river and one day the owner of the local cafe was walking by and tried to pay me $50 for one I had killed and about to bin. I warned him that the water is polluted so its best he doesnt eat one, he replies "Fuck pollution, in my country sadam put chemical weapons in river we still eat it" I gave them to him for free and wished him luck haha

Lol yaaaaa, probably wasn't the best move. I guess the only thing that place had going for it was that Sadam had a vacation home there.

I just realised that was a fucked up question, sorry dude Im a tard.

Funniest moment from Iraq?
No you're fine, not the first time it's been asked and won't be the last. I just don't have too much more to say about it. I know you know this so this next part isn't directed at you. Some people try to glorify the killing. For me personally it wasn't some cool thing I enjoyed doing. It was however a decision I would make again, without hesitation, should there be an extremely extremely rare situation where that would be the appropriate response in the civilian world. But it's not something I take lightly, or took lightly.

Funniest moment was, and this is fucked up, when my good friend had an rpg shot at him while he was on post. The shot was high by like 10+ meters and he did an action hero dive out of the post. We broke his balls for daysssssss after.

Cheers bro, and that is funny. I went out with an Irish dude one night in Liberia and we had bushmeat and fucked some hookers. This is something I've incorperated into my daily routine.
Should I ask what bushmeat is?

Which nationalities were most prevalent? Did you get any Americans among them?

If I was in that position and we found an Aussie fighting against us I would seriously kick his head in badly.

Oh could you get weed or other drugs over there? alcohol?

I'd say mainly Syrian, some Jordanian, and some Iranian. Nope no Muricans. Yea.... If

Some dudes smoked hashish I never did. One dudes grandma sent us booze. A few of us made fruit wine, mine failed. And we confiscated a bottle of Irish whiskey the second time and a few of us took shots sitting off the back of the truck while driving through fallujah

Terrorists Attack Busy Indonesia Mall, 7 Dead

its always awful when you hear these things happening...but definitely a different level of concern when you know a person who is exactly where bombs have exploded followed by a gun fight..
hopefully my pal in jakarta gets word out that she's safe..chances are she is...but still a bit worried.
