Enson, just wanted to say I agree with you 100% on oblique kicks. I want MMA to be as close as possible to a real fight. In my opinion, it's way more dangerous to get your knee or heel shredded to pieces when grappling if someone gets a hold of a submission. Oblique kicks are part of the game. I think a lot of people hate on the technique because it's seen as "dirty" but we are talking about what was once NHB...
Do you think the UFC should allow knees to the head on the ground? I think it's crazy that they don't because it really gives an unfair advantage to wrestlers. It absolutely drives me insane when a guy places one hand dangling on the mat specifically to avoid knees to the head and plays around the rules... or when someone blocks a takedown by sprawling, and the opening is right there for knees, but they can't use them. That is not fighting to me, it's avoiding the fight, and gives wrestlers a safety zone to shoot as many takedowns as they want with little fear of retribution.
I know the UFC will never allow stomps/soccer kicks, BUT knees on the ground are a MUST... At least I feel that way. People like to say "well what if a guy is trapped between the fence and canvas and gets kneed then?"... I say too bad because it's a fight.. You can smash someone's face with punches and elbows when they are stuck between the cage wall and canvas.. Knees should be no different.
Sorry for the long post. It just drives me nuts. I feel like the UFC's current ruleset is completely in favor of wrestlers and that style. Taking away knees on the ground is a HUGE disadvantage for people trying to sprawl away from a takedown.
Thanks
