Former Bellator middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko will compete in Russia next month under the M-1 Global banner.

Shlemenko will meet former M-1 middleweight champion and fellow Bellator veteran Vyacheslav Vasilevsky on the M-1 Challenge 64 show in Moscow. The two will meet in the semi-final of the recently announced Grand Prix tournament over the coming months.

Despite a doping suspension in effect in California, which denied him any opportunities to fight in the United States over the coming three years, Shlemenko opted to fight in his native land and signed on with M-1 Global after shopping around with several promotions.

According to sources close to the former champion, M-1 Global and Bellator reached an amicable agreement to allow Shlemenko to compete under their banner in Russia.

So he is still under Bellator contract? I guess they count on him to be able to fight after 3 years again.
Can him fighting elsewhere now have any negative consequences when he tries to reapply for a license?

Agreed, but I also wonder what Bellator thinks. If the AC isn’t happy with Shlemenko fighting, they might not be happy with Bellator here.

He would have been what, 34, when his suspension was up? Can't blame the guy for wanting to make some duçkets, but he just committed çareer suicide in the US. Hopefully M-1 compensates him well.

I wonder what the terms of that agreement were.

Hopefully this was a "we'll let you have Schlemenko if you let us have ____" type of deal
