Right after his 13-second loss in December, Aldo says was promised a title fight withFrankie Edgar if McGregor moved up to 155 pounds, but the promotion has changed plans weeks after. For Aldo, it’s title fight or nothing.

"Dana (White) and Lorenzo (Fertitta) went to our locker room and said the next fight would be with Frankie Edgar for the title because Conor wouldn't make the weight anymore," Aldo told the media recently. "That was the idea when the fight was over. But if someone asks me what I want, it’s the rematch, of course. I don't see another fight for me besides a title fight or a rematch."

The UFC has yet to decide who’s next for the featherweight gold, and the Brazilian won’t rule sitting out an entire year if Edgar gets the next crack at "The Notorious".

"What I can say is that that’s our idea right now," Aldo’s manager Andre Pederneiras said in a media scrum in Rio de Janeiro. "It might change tomorrow, but that’s our idea right now."

"Aldo believes he has this right, and so do I," he added. "He will only fight for the belt. The champion he was, undefeated for 10 years, he thinks he has the same right others had. Some fighters are getting rematches they deserve less than Aldo. If it’s going to be soon or in 10 years, he thinks he deserves a title fight."

Pederneiras expects to meet with UFC officials "soon" to negotiate Aldo’s next step, and admits he’s unhappy with the promotion’s decisions.

"I wouldn’t let (McGregor) move up and take the belt with him, but it’s the UFC’s call, I can’t do anything about it," he said. "I have to accept it. I can’t say I’m happy with it, though. I’m not, and Aldo is not happy about it either. But we can’t do anything about it. When you fight for a company, you have two options: leave the company, or accept the condition and wait, try to negotiate what’s better for you, and that’s what we’re doing right now."

I think he should fight just to get a win under his belt and get that ring rust out. Sitting out won't help him any.

Then again, he did get knocked out cold. A year may seem much, but I think it is healthy for him. It's the healthy choice for sure. If he's awarded with a title shot afterwards, then that is even better.

Dominic Cruz came back with a vengeance after his long lay-offs. Maybe ring-rust isn't as much of an issue for some of these guys. Aldo is after all a veteran, and arguably p4p best before his loss.

I have warmed to the idea of an immediate rematch against Conor.

Just so people saying fluke will shut up already.

Of course he is willing to sit. He got his paycheck from the Conor fight and doesn't have to fight for a long time. May as well take time to heal.

Regardless of what was said, I think it's pretty lame for him to sit out like that. News flash to him: he got KO'd in 13 seconds in the biggest fight of his life. A guy who takes that kind of loss shouldn't be running around saying "I want to fight for the title or nothing". Let him get back in there with a guy like Max Holloway.

Anyone who thinks that fight was a fluke has no real understanding of fighting.

Sometimes the focus on the belt is too great. If fighting is your life than fight. That's why I love Cowboy's attitude. That dude is a fighter. Ready to whenever, wherever.
I know he's not the only one but he's always the first that comes to mind.

I truly think that Aldo regrets coming in so sloppy and aggressive. Dude probably lays in bed every night imaging the fight if he would have came out behind his jab looking for openings and td. Get back in there and get a win. That's the best thing he could do

Pretty much this. He feels like he's gotten jerked around by Zuffa for years & now he's got some fuck you money. Might as well sit out, heal, and wait to see how things play out.
