Next week’s UFC 196 event will come without the usual hefty pay-per-view price tag.

After losing a headlining heavyweight title fight earlier this week, the event now instead will air on FOX Sports 1. Yahoo! Sports first reported the plans, citing UFC President Dana White.

UFC 196 takes place Feb. 6 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. Following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, the remainder of the card is now slated for FOX Sports 1.

Initially, the main card was expected to air on PPV with its $50-$60 price tag. Instead, it’s now free for anyone who has a cable or streaming package that includes FOX Sports 1.

We all wanted this to happen. Watching UFC 196 will no longer require you to pay for the PPV via MMAJunkie.

My question is- is it still called UFC 196 or is it changed to Fight Night? If it's not called 196, is UFC 200 still technically UFC 200? Interesting scenario here.

They'll keep the name as is for future event marketing reasons. UFC 75 was on Spike.

Thanks for merging. I think he barely got it in before mind. I concede. Haha
I like it that we've gotten to a point where members are bringing in content...and so quickly that we're having to merge threads. Represents growth, and takes some pressure off of us (the staff), to do so.

To be sure. If zuffa stopped hoarding money like Smaug the Dragon from the fighters I would be much more inclined to purchase a ppv.
I'm in the UK so I don't have to pay for it...its on BT sport...which I have got downstairs...but I usually just stream it so I can watch it from my room...events start at 3:00am :expressionless:

Which is another reason I'd never pay for a PPV...I don't know how that model stuck around there tbh.

Fighter pay and general lack of giving a shit as well as their lack of transparency are just frosting on the cake.

I'm all about watching that BT now. I love UK "adverts". (that's what y'all call em, right? Or am I tripping?)

They are funny with their silly accents, especially when they get all excited.

UK guys- did you pay for Mayweather-Pacquiao? It was 100 bucks in the states, and ol' Andrewsimar forked over every dime for it.

Sky Box office had it, at £20 but I streamed it...my receiver (or "digibox") is unplugged and serves as a dust collector and I could not be bothered to get it at like 4:30 am or whatever time they were due to start...so technically yes, but no for me.
